Assuming they move Lambert to tackle, guard isn't looking great at the moment. I'm not sold on Absher and Jagusah can't stay healthy.

Losing Billy would stink, the answer though becomes simple.

Knapp
Jagusah
Craig
Lambert
Augustine/black

I’m confident Augustine and or black will, by next year, be an upgrade over Wagner. The key is jagusah if we want to take a major step forward at the OL. He could become best Linemen in the country.

Knapp was playing really good to end the season and lambert kept improving all year.

I don’t know he proved to be a starter. Otting was better than Absher.

I think you need 7 guys. Knapp, Lambert, Jagusah, Craig, Otting is 5. Absher and Black would be 6 and 7 (6 - 7) IMO. But that’s relying heavily on Black being legit.

Could Craig play OG?
Hopefully a true freshman can step up but we can’t count on it.

Damn, I thought that he would return next yr. Gonna miss that 'road grader' opening holes for the RB's.

Would really love to see him come back and get a nice check and be an anchor for this OL. I think we have a lot of young talent but Schrauth significantly improves our interior.

Dumb question… but has Matt Freeman ever been wrong with his intel? & when he says gone, is that to the league or into the portal?

Hoping he’s wrong about Billy…

He said he doesn’t expect him back.

“I think Billy will not be back” is a lot different than what he said about the others IMO. Not going at you, just disagree with you how he said it. Regardless, it’s not trending positively it would seem

I'd say his agent is just negotiating some big cash. Pay the boy.

It sucks but might be the catalyst to move Knapp inside with Jagusah and we have some freaks at OT to battle it out. The best 2 men win.

Not expected back per Matt Freeman.

Huge loss. Can lose one or Aamil or Billy, not both.
We can absolutely afford to lose both no problem.

I'd rather have Billy back, but you essentially replace him with Charles Jagusah, which IMO is a potential upgrade. And you have Sullivan Absher, who was really good to end the year while Billy was out. It seems inevitable that Guerby is going to move out to RT with Wagner gone. Overall, that OL is going to be excellent.

Billy only played one good game and was bad when it mattered against Miami.

My guess is that they'll keep Knapp at LT, and Absher would remain the starter when he took over for Billy.

Lambert moving to RT is basically inevitable, so Jagusah would just take Guerby's old spot.

I think the player most likely to move to guard might be Ashton Craig.

I think the issue that most people have is that with Billy gone, your starting guards, on paper, are a guy who didn't exactly light the world on fire and a guy who couldn't stay healthy in 2024 and 2025. That's very scary. If Billy comes back, we'd be all set at 1 guard spot and you'd have Jagusah and Absher at the other, with the latter being insurance if (and probably when) Jagusah gets hurt again.

Sadly, we'd face that uncertainty of "can he stay healthy?" whether Billy leaves or not. Back to back seasons he missed half the season.

I felt Absher did well this year. He wasn't as good as Billy at his peak, but you also have other options. You can move one of Craig or Otting to guard.

Unfortunately, our season may once again hinge on Jagusah not succumbing to bizarre injuries. I firmly believe ND beats both Miami and A&M if he plays.

Current best 5: Jagusah, Craig, Knapp, Lambert, Otting

Highest upside 5: Jagusah, Craig, Lambert, Black, Knapp (at not LT)
I think so too. I think ideally you move either Craig or Otting to guard.

This repeated line about Jagusah being injury prone is the oddest thing. He might get injured again but he's had one injury since being at ND that was football related, right? Didn't he tear a pec or something should related? Then he had an ATV accident with a setback because it wasn't properly set or it needed to be cleaned up.

With that said, we still have a lot of options on the line. Craig, Knapp, Jagusah, Lambert, Otting, Will Black, Absher, M. Augustine then to a more unknown extent: Cam Herron (can he add some lbs and develop at center?), Prescod, Peter Jones, Strebig and the incoming SIX freshman.

So if Schrauth declares for the draft, we'll have 6 OL who have started games for us. 2 ascending sophomore who have had high reviews leaked out of the gug, 4 players going into their 2nd years that we know nothing about and 6 freshmen to work into the mix.

That's 18 players without Schrauth so I'm guessing we'll see a few put their name in the transfer portal. Still, there is a lot to like about our OL room. But it'd be so much nicer if Schrauth came back to lead the room.

I felt like Lambert started to out it together and show glimpses of his potential down the stretch.

I think if they keep Knapp at LT Jaguah on the left side makes the most sense if you are keeping him at guard. Right side ends up some combination of Lambert, Black, Sully or maybe craig?
