On mike and mike this morning UK coach Calipari talking about the academic achievement of his basketball team "this year our guys had a 2.8 GPA, thats a lot higher than when you were at ND Mike" Cal then went on to compare Kentucky basketball today to ND football in the 60s-70s. now i know that standards got a lot higher in the mid 90s, but was 2.8 ever the average for the football team? Idk but that just seems low even before the standards got high.

I could be wrong, but when I was listening to it I understood it differently. I got the perception he was saying the 2.8 he has with his players at Kentucky is significantly better than Kentucky was when Mike was in school at ND. He also went on to say Kentucky isn't for everybody, much like Notre Dame isn't. Which we all know is true. So I thought he wasn't talking about ND having low standards, more high standards. Just my take though, I could be wrong.

Though his past and some of his current methods are a bit questionable, I don't think Calipari is the type to create an issue, nor was he intending to take a shot at ND or anything of the sort, probably just having some fun with the Mikes.

Having said that, I heard it and thought to myself "no way that's true," before realizing that he was probably just trying to joke... but then again, I'm not familiar with how successful athletes were in academics in the past at ND, so maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Yeah.... Pretty sure UK b-ball players aren't taking a class where they even have to use their brain.

GPA doesn't matter when none of your players make it past their second year before jumping to the NBA. Let's see him brag about his graduation rate.

I didn't listen to this this morning, but I would assume that Calipari was probably taking a shot/joking with Mike. I mean they always take intelligence shots at Golic on the show. Seems to me like he was just busting Golic's balls with no proof to back it up. Wow you all take things to literally. lol.

THIS X 1,000. A 4.0 at UK is the equivalent of a 2.2 at any credible university. I'm so sick of coaches bragging that players are getting good grades anyways (ND included). Rolando McClain, who referred to himself as "me" 3 times during an interview, had a 3.0 at Bama for crying out loud. What does that say?
