Saban is one thing (if he plays by the rules), but no way in hell do I want Gruden. I have seen how coaches do that have no real college experience at HC, and it is not pretty. No thanks.

Definitely true, but he's the only big name we'd have a legitimate chance with.

Now back to the harsh reality.....we already have a coach who will be coaching our team for at least 3 more years.

We don't need a "big name". We need real coaches that know how to build a program and be successful. Was Urban Meyer a "big name" before he simply started winning early and often at Utah and then Florida?

Any coach that wins at ND will be a big name.

Well, as long as Rees lost whatever material he was blackmailing Kelly with, at least we're on an upward trend. Still doubt Kelly will ever have an ND team finish in the Top 10.

Beau Benken is a real young, up-and-coming coach. If things don't work out with Kelly, maybe Beau will have his BSU hardware in hand and ready to take over ND.

Ethical issues like greyshirting aside, he puts together the most dominant teams in the country. Even if he wasn't able to greyshirt, he'd have the best teams in the country. And I'm sure Bama fans don't mind too much about their coach's ethical downfalls considering they're busy celebrating a second national championship in three years.

That same fan base is also busy getting Harvey Updyke's autograph.

For all the Saban lovers out there...

How good a coach would Saban be if he had to follow the standards ND would (rightfully IMHO) impose on him ?

Keep on dreaming because ND will not lower their standards nor will Saban increase his!

OK.....relax......Saban wouldn't be able to recruit the kids at ND that he can at Alabama. ND=standards. ND wouldn't let him over recruit. Meyer didn't take the ND job due to not getting the athletes he needed to win championships. If people think Kelly's face gets RED while yelling at student athletes think about Gruden, he wouldn't last through the spring practices. Kelly will do a great job. He has never had this much talent at any of his coaching stops, give him time.

Ohh yeah... Wilbon is a talking head who takes himself seriously. Kornheiser on the other hand admits to knowing nothing but is extremely funny.

ND already lowered their academic standards. There are quite a few players that wouldn't have a prayer of coming here during previous regimes.

I might be myself here but if Nick Saban were to come to ND i would streak through the whole state of Wisconsin naked with Sabans head tattooed to my back. I wouldn't mind seeing a couple Natty Champs. If Kelly doesn't pan out i would want Gruden or Saban.

I'm definitely not going to name names, but some of these kids' GPAs and test scores are atrocious. I'm not complaining about it and neither should anyone else, but even Lou would have had trouble getting those players through admissions.

If we were generalizing fan bases based on certain individuals, I wouldn't hate Michigan. Two of my best friends go there. But the majority of them are huge d!ckbags. ND has great fans, but it's foolish to think there aren't a few that give us bad names.

I didn't say ND doesn't have d*ckheaded fans (Hi Tim Moy!). Just was pointing out how fans of Alabama celebrate their chief executive of d*ckheads. I have not heard one ND fan support Timmmoy.

First I am very happy with Kelly, he'll keep making improvements.

Saban is a hell of a coach and reflects the University of Alabama philosophy and lives within the rules of the school and the SEC. I don't for one minute believe he wouldn't live within Notre Dame boundaries in the very unlikely event he ever came to Notre Dame. He's a strict, tough coach. He wouldn't agree to come without very clear understanding of the process on both sides.

Oh, come on. Most Bama fans are more embarassed than anything else by Updyke. I'd say the vast majority of them have as much disgust for him as anyone else.

Saban is 60 years old, BTW. I doubt he goes anywhere once he leaves Alabama.

And he has a hot daughter.

I'd give her about a 6 and would most assuredly destroy her but nothing special IMO.

I know this isn't related to ND, but my roommate has class with Jae Crowder (Marquette), and he says he's the dumbest adult he's ever met. He's not joking, either. And my roommate's not the brightest (~2.4 gpa). Lots of good schools (even private) slide in some iffy student-athletes.
