I wish him the best of luck with his health and hope he lives a long, healthy life.. as for football, I wish him very little success, but I'm a cold-hearted person sometimes.. this situation just rubs me the wrong way, but I'd never wish poor health on someone

I hope your OK Tee, if not, get well soon. If you are OK and it's the class/homework thing then your life is headed in the wrong direction and I'm glad your going somewhere else.

Judging by his tweets, he wanted to ball with her, but i doubt it was b ball.

I agree with this. We have no clue what's going on. It could be a problem that got worse. And at the bottom of it, Tee had been at ND for a little over a month. Maybe he felt more comfortable just getting home with his family to sort it out. Wouldn't be the first 18 year to do so.

Sucks that the football team got left in a weakened position, but really, we'll survive.

For those that have commented that he was participating in the 7-on-7 tournament in Vegas, I believe he was actually there watching his brother.

Agree with the comments that the next steps will give a better indication as to motivation. It would be 'interesting' (read: ridiculous) if he was granted a waiver to void the one-year sit out.

Tee: "I would like to request a hardship waiver so I can play in 2012. The reason that I had to leave Notre Dame was because of a serious health issue which prevented me from playing there, and therefore I believe that I am justified in seeking dispensation to play at *** in 2012, rather than sitting a year."

NCAA: "So, you had to leave Notre Dame because you couldn't play there in 2012, due to your health condition. Therefore you believe you are entitled to a hardship waiver to play somewhere else in 2012; the hardship being a serious health condition."

Tee: "Pretty much, yeah"

NCAA: "Granted"

This. We have no idea, but should take him at his word for now. If he turns out to play somewhere else, then maybe it was a cover strory. But I know for a fact if I was 18 and was mostly there for football, and academics was secondary, and I found I had a heart issue more serious than I thought, I'd be scared and want to be home near my family. Just cannot find it in my heart to say something negative about the kid. I wanted him to play for us, but I feel for him more as a kid who just found out some really tough news about his health and is just scared. We need to lay off him for a bit and see what happens. It is the right thing to do.

I don't know the whole scenario here, I obviously hope Tee has a full recovery, but it just seems like there's more to this than his health.

Finding out you have a health problem normally wouldn't just cause you to drop out of a top university and football program out of nowhere. I understand that he would want to be with his family, but he could've just taken a week off without dropping out of ND and saying he wouldn't return.

Unless it's life threatening, which it appears it isn't, this entire situation just smells fishy.

Oh well, what's done is done. Good luck, Tee, unless you go to USC. In which case, no sympathy.

There's a thread on DD that follows tweets from Notre Dame players, coaches, media etc.... Several of Tee's tweets were included. They came across a little unusual to me. I kind of got the feeling he was lonely and definitely missing female company.

I wondered how well he was adjusting to being away from home, not an easy transition for some. I hope the the medical condition is not serious, I kind of have the feeling it gave an out to be being unhappy.

Having a grand plan; he and Deontay playing together, losing his senior year to play with Deontay, then losing Deontay at the last minute, and being 1500 miles from home, takes a heck of a 17 year old to maturely handle that.

I hope it comes together for him as long as it's not against us.

There may be "more to it" than his health (as in: grades, homesickness), but it certainly appears that health is the primary reason. Maybe he was struggling in other ways and then the heart thing came up and it gave him a face-saving way out. We don't know.

But I can see why a kid in Tee's position (an EE, no less, so academically he's actually ahead of the game) might go back home if told he had heart troubles and could never play football at Notre Dame. I wouldn't chalk it up to nefarious intent. And I'm still not clear why he couldn't come back in the fall with the rest of his class, if his health checks out.

That said, if he does have heart problems, I wouldn't be surprised if we never really hear from Tee Shepard on a football field again. It sucks, and he seems like a good kid, but ND's not going to be the only school that won't let him play. And even if he does find someplace else, sitting out two years is tough.
