I still hate hearing this loyalty bullshit. As a coach you teach your players to never settle for anything other than their best and to always go for their dreams, but apparently coaches are supposed to hold themselves back and not take better, more challenging, dream jobs.

"No, I won't take an NFL position. I prefer to stay at Landry Middle School." C'mon guys.

Irishknight this is not about you. I just hate hearing people act like all coaches are only in it for themselves.

You may have noticed, but he isn't currently coaching at Landry Middle School. If the pay is the same (or he gets a bump to similar pay to what he would get to go to the Bucs) is it really advantageous to go to the league? Is he more likely to land a HC gig there after working as a Coordinator there than as a HC in CFB by keeping his current gig? These guys aren't currently in line for food stamps at these big programs. And the grass doesn't always turn out to be greener, take it from someone who's been through the process of having to make that choice and is glad he has showed loyalty.

That is a fair perspective, but I also think that if I was offered a job in my field for more money, I would always listen. These coaches happen to be somewhat public figures, so everyone gets to track their situations and form opinions on them. But lots of people jump around from company to company looking for their next great gig. I don't think its a moral issue. Everyone's priorities are different, and these coaches' priorities will guide them in where they work and for how long.

I don't think loyalty's much of an issue here. He's been an NFL coach since 2005. It makes sense for him to look for a job in the NFL where he's probably more comfortable.

A bit petulant of you today, Beau.

A bit but only because I took us off topic.

I stand by what I'm saying. Kelly left Cincinnati for Notre Dame. Are we dogging him for that?

I was being over dramatic on purpose. lol Nobody blames someone for leaving a school or job for Notre Dame. So why should it be any different in this situation? If this guy thinks he's making the right move, then power to him. I'm not saying it's right or wrong just that you can't say coaches have no loyalty because they're trying to accomplish their own goals.

If I set up a test, and look at Kelly leaving Cinci for ND, vs, say Hinton leaving ND for tOSU, the two feel very different. I heard Hinton talking Rah-rah ND until the end, even after he knew he was gone. I further believe the deal was done undercover, and behind backs. I have this from fairly reliable sources, confirmed by Coach Kelly who stated several days before the deal was done that he hadn't heard a whiff of that bad ****. On the other hand Kelly was very open about his interest in Notre Dame . . .

So there is a defense; it is just open to interpretation.

I agree, listening to an offer allows you to recognize your market value. It is that point that I made in stating perhaps he could get a bump in his current job. Loyalty to a company or organization can pay dividends down the road and I certainly don't blame individuals for exploring opportunities and when the opportunity seems right taking advantage of said opportunities. I think our own Coach Alford may very well look back on his recent dance with the Pack (even though he may not have been offered the job) and feel he made the right move staying put. He has a bright future, his organization (our beloved ND) has rewarded him w a title and responsibility bump and likely a raise. I'm willing to bet that this will not go unoticed in the future.
It is amazing for me to see people in the business I'm in moving from company to company thinking that the next job will be their springboard and more often than not they end up on a professional merry go round. Based on my commentary it may not surprise you that I've been with my company for 24 years and my loyalty has been rewarded. I feel blessed.

Kelly Addresses Notre Dame Questions At News Conference - YouTube

i'd be a tad slighted if i was a cinci fan after this. just as the people that feel slighted about this current defection (or defecation).
fact of the matter is that it doesnt matter. they left. congratulate them on getting a job, that ag least in their minds, for whatever reasons, are their calling. maybe its calling them home. maybe its to work again with an old colleague.

gvsu was plenty upset when chuck martin left (pretty upset with kelly, and cmu with kelly, and obviously cinci). ive said this in another post. martin couldve made, what, 50% more salary at cmu and been the d-cood from probably the get go or if not, wouldve been by the time they got to cinci. he stayed. he won. but he couldnt say no to ND. because of his love for ND. maybe that love is enough.
look at what he said about coming here recently on ESPN:

"But it doesn't matter. He can put me anywhere on the staff. Everybody knows how I feel about Notre Dame. Everybody knows how I feel about Brian Kelly. So he could tell me to coach any position on the team and I'd go to work the same way."
maybe hinton has that same love for tOSU. you cant blame a guy(s) for having that dream. forget money, title, geography. sometimes, its just what in your heart.
i'd blame urban for tugging at those heartstrings before blaming the guys that jumped ship.

Wish I thought this might shake Woodard's decision, but I don't. He sounds scarlet and gray all the way.

I thought that same thing from what Deontay, Ronald, and Taylor were saying.

Just over a year to go you never know...
