If this agreement does exist, then why has it taken the Fed so long to make this arrest. The timing is kind of strange considering it happened the day after the SOPA blackout...

Could it possibly be a retaliation?

If I had to guess I'd say probably a combination of 1) the time it took to build a decent case against megaupload and 2) general governmental ineptitude at dealing with emerging/novel internet phenomenon.

With that being said, I agree that the timing was really curious. I hadn't really thought of the possibility of it being retaliation. If it were, I would actually be impressed with their ability to coordinate such an effort on short notice. I think they grabbed four execs/owners that day?

I thought the timing was more curious because, here we have a number of federal legislators along with all of the big media conglomerates crying that we need additional and stronger powers to combat internet IP infringement, and the very next day they manage to arrest a number of executives and owners on the opposite side of the globe including one that was extricated from a safe room in his mansion.

That was a pretty serious law enforcement effort and one that left me thinking...they need more power?

Not the first time it has happened in another country. If they can link it some how to the USA they will seize it.
The web site in the link sued the US government. Because they are a Spanish site based in Spain oh and the Spanish courts had ruled they weren't infringing copyrights. But godaddy was used to register the domain.
Directv had a problem in Canada a few years back with people putting up a dish and getting service by getting a black box Directv went crying to Canada and the Canadian government basically told them to pound sand they don't own the air only to signal and most of us don't ask you to broadcast a signal they don't want to their house and to get better encryption if they don't like it.

I don't have a problem with them hammering down on the sites for "stolen" intellectual property...

Again, If there is one group of people I dont' feel bad for, it's Hollywood. I want to put them away for some of the crap they put on the big screen.

But you're all missing the point. Read what else is in those bills...
