I just think (and this is only my opinion) that our ceiling with Rees is more 8-5, possibly 9-4 years. If Rees starts next year, then he's gotta start in 2013 too right? So I feel like now is the time to change quarterbacks because even if we go through a rough year next year at the qb position, it will be worth it to get someone with more potential than Rees some game experience. Also, I'm of the opinion that we go at worst 8-5 next year with whoever at qb. I'm hoping for Golson.

I agree with this and I think Golson should start next year but this past year we needed Rees to start and he filled the role adequately and we should be thanking him for his service not treating him like **** (I know that you aren't and I appreciate that but many people on here do).

No, but that IS the point. Clausen completed 68% of his passes in 2009 while attempting much more difficult throws than Rees did last year. Rees only completed as high as he did because of the level of difficulty of throws COMBINED with who he was throwing to most of the time. How do you not see this?

And if you took all of Tate's YAC out of the equation, you would find that Clausen wasn't attempting too many throws that were more difficult than Rees'.

Clausen threw a great deep ball, though. You have a point there.

Clausen's ability to put the ball in a spot to allow Tate to run after the catch is half the battle.

We all know Rees will win the Heisman next year. But having this "fella" come on here to taunt us, claiming he isn't going to, is too much.

I totally agree, Rees was the only one who could've filled the QB spot this year. My first post was mostly in response to the guy who started this thread that still wants Rees to be QB next year.

I think most people hating on Rees don't really mean the guy disrespect. It's just that we shouldn't be in a position where Tommy Rees is our best QB option, and since he is then all the frustration gets taken out on him. A logical person might say, well people should be angry at BK, it's part of his job to have a QB ready to play. This is true, however BK is here for good, while Tommy is more easily replaced, so naturally ND fans want to believe that the problem is Tommy not BK. It's an unfortunate situation for Tommy, because he's doing the best he can but just isn't suited for the job. It's an unfortunate situation for BK and the rest of the team, because they have a qb that just isn't suited for the job but is also the best option we have. It's quite the conundrum, very very frustrating, and a HUGE reason for all the negativity on this board this year. It's hard to be positive in the face of an impossible, unchangeable situation. I believe that BK is a great coach and we won't be in this situation next year.

You really need to watch more football. Wake Forest was actually a decent team this year and you are way overstating how bad he was this season. By no means did Tommy have a good or great year but you should try speaking with stats and/or well thought out opinions.

You seem to like statistics, so here is a statistic of why I don't think Tommy should be our starting quarterback:
He accounted for 20 touchdowns and 19 turnovers (14 ints, 5 fumbles lost). Only one more td than turnover.

As for non statistics; he limits our offense with his immobility and arm strength. In a year where our running game and defense were better than they have been in years we went 8-5. Why? Clearly, because our quarterback play was limiting us.

Two 8-5 seasons in a row is the best two seasons we've strung together in a little while, so Rees is by no means a terrible qb. He is decent, not good, not bad. I think most people on this board just want a quarterback that has the same immense potential as the rest of the team.

Here you go pkt, zpm beat me to it. 20-19 TD/TO. HE is the reason we lost most of our games this year.Nothing else.TO's at the most inopportune times killed us. He has a weak arm,no mobility, zones in on receivers.Do I need to go on?
Ok,as far as Wake goes, here's their season.Wake Forest Football - Demon Deacons News, Scores, Videos - College Football - ESPN
6-7 including losses to Syracuse and getting killed by UNC and Vandy are really impressive.Yeh, I don't watch enough football. You must like watching bad football if you think Wake is a good team. Enough stats for you???

I said decent team not good and the point I would make is that Rees was our best option this year. Best doesn't mean good, it means the best of what we had this year. Also I would say that Rees has an average arm and yes he is about as mobile as a statue. Also is there ever an opportune time for a turnover (well if you are up by 4 plus td's maybe). I hate the zones in on a WR arguement because who wouldn't have zoned in on them. Hell if he wasn't throwing to them enough we would be screaming at him to throw to them (and I remember that happening in at least one game).

Yes, because Tommy Rees allowed Michigan to go right down the field, and score a game winning TD in what, 25 seconds?

And Tommy Rees allowed Stanford's(and USC's for that matter) front seven to absolutely manhandle our offensive line, making running the ball impossible.

Tommy has a lot of limitations, and he made his share of boneheaded plays. But this is exactly why people are defending him; the assertion that the kid sucked and caused us to lose 5 games.

Well, I see that you have all had the opportunity to meet my son. He has wanted to set up an account on here for some time. I was sure that he would be banned quickly due to his love for Tommy, and I must admit that I am amazed that he has completely turned this site upside down. He is a good kid and loves ND, but is young and is a stout supporter of Tommy. We fight about this daily. I appreciate that everyone was somewhat respectful to his opinion even though he was thought to be a troll. Go Irish!

The plot thickens....

remember who stood up for him SandS...

;)

I saw that ACamp, The funny part is I was reading along while he is posting in his room and he comes out and is saying that everyone is ripping into him. I had to let him know that you had his back. Believe me, if I did not know who he was, I would have been the first one ripping into him, but it is my blood. I haven't posted on here in months due to work, but I figured this would be a good time. Kid bleeds B&G like his dad, and is loyal to his man Tommy.

Well then we welcome him.

Tough start.

Good practice though.

He defended himself well.

Kid stood his ground while the group think tank destroyed him...

and he presented some good points while many just trolled him...

if and when he is of age, I'd buy him a beer... A sign of a great man is one who stands his ground despite popular opinion until proven otherwise,... fact is, he was never proven otherwise, at least not in this thread...

good job dad.

I had to give him reps as I was reading & catching up. He did a masterful job supporting Tommy. I gave him reps for standing his ground against pretty much everyone. I got online tonight & saw the Gunner fan page, clicked on & read the 7 posts. Then clicked on the Golson Page and read the 8 or 9 posts. BAM, I click on Tommy fan page & it's like 11 pages when I started. I was intrigued. I think we all should give reps to S&S Jr. He is a true fan. By the way S&S, he would make a great attorney. He argues his point well.

I positive repped every post this kid put up.

Now he's got as solid a rep as some here much longer.

He held his stance and never was disrespectful.

SandS: make sure he reads them all for encouragement. Some are blank but have him read them all.
