How about everyone over 18 stop following Yuri Wright's twitter account? People have an organism anytime it twitters (or whatever the hell twitter does). I feel that (I'm not calling anyone out specifically) some people have had very condescending attitudes on this issue, his own HS most of all.

Huh?

It's supposed to be funny... Apparently Wright used that word incorrectly in one of those infamous tweets...

Sitting here in Church, waiting on the services to start, and I am checking out IE and I realized something. A LOT of us (I am including myself here obviously because I am on here during Church) are like degenerate gamblers. We are never happy with our winnings (the awesome recruits that have already verbaled or EE'd), we always want more and are never satisfied. I am not saying anything is wrong with it. It's nice to be in this boat. Heck, I am proud I didn't follow recruiting during Willingham years. I guess I am just saying that, while I really hope we are able to celebrate the landing of all the recruits that Coach Kelly and co. are after, I wanted to just sit back for a moment and look at what a great class ND already has. Sorry in advance if I tick anyone off. Church is starting, so I guess I will have to go an hour or so out of the loop.

Is this the appropriate Yuri thread?

Yuri Wright's Twitter posts may cost him college scholarship - ESPN

My guess is that BK is letting this blow over before he let's Yuri commit. Much like he did during the Floyd decision. Gotta love NDs PR. I don't remember what it was, but BK coincidentally admitted Floyd back to the team on the same day another major (even bigger than Floyd) college football story broke out.

Kelly suspended Floyd from all team activities until he proved that he was making the right decisions.... So if that's "coincidental" enough for this "other major college football story" that you can't quite remember, then, sure.

I remember perfectly.

If you knew anything about public relations you'd see what I'm saying. Did BK just happen to determine on August 3rd that right then and there Floyd was 'ready' and BK decided to announce immediately? Or did he know a day, a week, prior and then announce when it was appropriate. If you think it's a coincidence that another major college football story came out that day (it's killing me that I can't remember what it was but I remember posting about it) then... OK.

Could it be a total coincidience? Sure, but I'd rather credit NDs public relations crew for being clever.

Edit: The 'incident' I couldn't remember that was announced right before Floyd's admittance was Garcia getting kicked off of SC for the 5th time.

smh :whoknows:

Ok.

Here's what I'm thinking: He's probably going to need his senior year course work, spring semester, for admission nearly anywhere.

Whats his current status?

The Eagles signed Ronnie Brown on August 3rd. lol

I tried assisting by searching but couldn't come up with anything.

The way you posted you make it sound like a damn conspiracy...

Or something along the lines of how Hoke redshirted Stonum after his umpteenth run-in with the law.

Edit: of course you think it's "coincidental" the truth is, is that BK was evaluating Big Mike along with Res Life, so to make it sound like a PR stint.... Is just incorrect

Anyone who thinks BK still takes Wright is kidding himself. At this point, even if BK wanted him, it's out of his hands: it's a national story on ESPN, USAToday, etc, and it's now in the hands of admissions, Father Jenkins, and Jack Swarbrick. There's not a snowball's chance in hell they risk it on a kid who not only posted a bunch of idiocy online, but who was also expelled from his Catholic high school. Even if this kid were to come to ND and be a saint, ND cannot afford the attention that comes with giving him a scholarship.

The gamble in this situation is too great a liability not to have major consequences media-wise related to this recruitment.

That being said, it's impossible to state we won't have the kids pledge and honor his offer at this point in time.

Closed door meetings have already occurred, I'd wager.

Politics/PR 101. If you're announcing something that some will find controversial (which the Floyd situation was to some), you announce at a time where other 'breaking news' comes out so that the backlash is reduced, to some degree. It's the way it is and it happens every day. Don't forget, BK has political roots, but I'm sure it was just lucky timing ;)

Not arguing with you here, just not agreeing with you.

No, it's all good.

I thought you were trying to compare Floyd's DUI scenario with Yuri's recruitment.

2 different things entirely

One of the reasons I think we don't have to honor his offer is because ND has a pretty firm policy that even once high school students have been admitted, they can have their admittance retracted on the basis of disciplinary or academic reasons. I'm sure it's no different with athletes. On top of this, imagine if we get a commitment from Standifer or Poole in the next day or two: then this turns into a situation no different from the one where Schutt's place was filled. And in terms of our PR situation, all we have to do is say that Wright's spot was taken.

Interesting note by Standifer on Twitter: he said that ND won't take him unless he completes another year's worth of Spanish. So he's signing up for an online course. Absolutely no way that ND takes Yuri Wright after being expelled if they won't even take Standifer for missing some Spanish.

This still doesn't look out for Yuri's best interest.

If he were admitted already, we wouldn't kick him off the team for this situation.

There may have been discipline administered, but it would be far from expulsion-worthy...

That's why I see alternative solution possible.

This isn't entirely true either.

It's unclear how his work completed may turnover to another institution for credit and allow him to continue moving forward.

Why do you so frequently assume?

I think this is 100% correct. But precisely because he has not already been admitted and he is not on the team, I think ND has no problem not taking him. It would be different, for example, if he were on the team. But this kid hasn't even committed, much less joined the team. Since there's not even any level of commitment from Yuri to ND, I don't think ND owes him anything. All ND has to say is that this kid made his bed and now he has to sleep in it.

Whether that's in Yuri's best interests is another question, but ND is going to look out for its own best interests, and you can't blame them.

No, no, no: I'm not saying that he couldn't earn the credits required. I'm saying that if a missing Spanish class is enough academic reason not to take a kid, then expulsion from school for disciplinary reasons is enough disciplinary reason not to take a kid.

Listen, is this an assumption? Sure, ok fine. But how many hs players who have been expelled from school in the second semester of their senior year do you know who have still been given a ND scholarship? This is a pretty safe assumption to make.

I think you assume too much.

I assume his commitment was to be, and this would help with many things in the future: Elijah's comfort, Yuri's skills on the field, and a Don Bosco pipeline.

If he is salvageable, it is in our best interest to keep involved with the kid and pull for him.

This would have to come with resolution of some sort: at the Admin level and with he and all players of our institution after his senior year completes...

I'm not up to BGIF's level on admission requirements, but you're mixing apples and oranges here bud.

Don Bosco prep is a good transcript, granted core requirements are accounted for throughout his transcript.

Expulsion is a disciplinary charge.

He is not under ND authority but off-the-field discipline is a concern.

We cannot speculate.

California is licking their "valued" chops I'm certain.

Along with every troll known to man. (Sound familiar?)

This is a greater stretch of the imagination than to assume that ND won't accept a kid who has been expelled from a Catholic hs. I agree that there are numerous benefits from taking the kid, but the potential for disaster outweighs those benefits. We're still going to get Shuhmate and the pipeline to Bosco remains open. Even Yuri's coach at Bosco said Bosco had to expel Yuri. He's not going to blame a Catholic university for not taking him. I wish I could somehow bet with people on here, because there is no doubt in my mind that Yuri Wright does not end up at ND. You can argue all you want that ND should take him, but whether they do or not is an entirely different question. Far too often on these message boards I think people get caught up in what they think they know when in reality, there are so many more factors that go into these decisions. Honestly, Standifer was told how to pass admissions this weekend and BK is visiting Poole this week. I guarantee you we've given up on Wright at this point and are going all out to get Standifer or Poole.

Dude, disagreeing with you doesn't make me a troll. Tell me one person expelled from school in second semester of senior year who still made it onto ND's football team. Do that and I leave this forum.

Seriously, we passed up RANDY FREAKING MOSS for disciplinary reasons. There's no way we take Yuri Wright, an unproven 4* DB.

The fact that Bosco is a respected school is all the more reason to respect their opinion, no? If they don't want him, why would ND?

I am going to go out on a limb and say that if Yuri was to commit, most all of us would be happy. Maybe harping on his mistake is the tool of choice so the let down won't be as bad if ND doesn't get him. That's just my thinking, he11, I am sure there is no one on Earth that wishes they could take those tweets back more than Yuri. That being said, we cannot undo the things in the past, we can only try and right our wrongs. I feel confident in ND's assessment of this student and if this incident is an isolated one, I think Yuri will take this life lesson & grow from it. Again, this is just my thinking, but if Yuri had a pattern of being verbally disrespectful, I would think it would have come to light before this post. Whether he ever plays a down of football for Notre Dame or not, I hope this young man gets a chance to prove that he is MUCH more than a few immature tweets. I would be willing to bet that had twitter been in use when many of us were young, and we were damn near household names, we would have posted some inappropriate stuff. I know that I sure said my fair share of it in my youth. Thankfully, it did not define me & I was able to mature and was given chances to right my wrongs. I am sure that some will hold Yuri to the fire because of this, but if those who chose this course would reflect back, I bet they have made mistakes themselves. Don't go giving me the crap that you never did anything that bad. Our Pastor preached o. This topic this morning. A SIN IS A SIN IS A SIN. It is my hope and prayer that Yuri gets a second chance to mature & where better to have that chance to grow into a fine man than the greatest university in the world NOTRE DAME.

I think one of the things that people don't stop to think about when it comes to risking it on recruits is a corollary of the 40-year degree argument:

Recruits don't come to ND, spend 4 years behaving themselves, then go to the NFL and let loose. They're expected to graduate from our program and represent our school with pride for the next 40 years. That's part of the reason why the prudence of BK's decision to reinstate Floyd won't be known for another 10 years yet.

When we talk about taking Yuri Wright, we're not just hoping the kid can hold his mouth for the next four years. We expect someone who's going to not embarrass the university and what it stands for when he's a much more public figure in the NFL. ESPN and every other organization loves nothing more than to nail ND for perceived moral failures, hence the reason why they consistently identified Corwin Brown as former ND coach when they could have easily said former Michigan football star, or Patriots coach, etc. These are all considerations running through the heads of Jenkins, Swarbrick, and admissions.
