If only he were a celebrity and he could just claim to be going to a "sex addiction camp" or some other conjured lunacy.

Sucks for this kid. I cannot believe that it is expel-worthy.

Is Notre Dame officially done with Wright then? Regardless, I hope he turns his life around. I don't think he's that bad of a kid, just an all-too-common mega-idiot with his twitter account. He will mature pretty damn quickly, I hope, or fall into oblivion.

If this was ONLY because of his Twitter then disgruntled Michigan fans did him diiiiiiiiirty. Those were private tweets for followers only and then they blew up this story and possibly cost a kid his future.

I really hope there was much more to this. If not, this is really some serious BS on numerous fronts.

It looked like pretty raunchy stuff and Catholic schools, of course, have the lattitude to do what they will. This is just a peek inside the head of an 18 year-old kid or a man in general. It's too bad that Twitter was ever created....it never seems to lead to anything good.

We have a helluva time getting high school athletes on track to graduate past admissions. I don't see how Wright could ever get in now having just been expelled.

Agreed, but it just shows how tough growing up in this generation can be for kids. While they have advantages older generations would never have dreamed of, they also have pitfalls of the same ilk. The same mistakes that older generations made that are fodder for nostalgic talk over a beer with a laugh are now life changing or career ruining instances.

Obviously no one can condone what Yuri was saying, and he obviously needs some guidance in his life, but to be in a position where he allegedly be expelled for tweets with the same language as many of his favorite rap artists, ruining his chance at a free education from one of the best university's in the country, is simply a crying shame.

Let he/she in admissions who is without sin cast the first stone.

Seriously, though, tough go for Yuri. I wonder what options will be left for him?

It is a shame. Obviously we don't know all of the circumstances. Whiskeyjack is probably right about admissions. I will say that if the staff and the school determine that there it merit and potential in Yuri, I don't care if they bring him in. It's not likely but if he can do what he needs to do, and ends up graduating and being successful, I'd be proud to be a fan.

Really hate it for him.

Yeah I went to Catholic school for 12 years. It can be pretty strict haha but as a Catholic it's hypocritical to expel someone, in my opinion, unless they've done repeated wrongs after multiple warnings.

As a Catholic who attended Catholic high school, I agree completely. The bottom line is that 18 year-old kids do not have fully developed reasoning ability. That's not to say that they don't know the difference between right and wrong but reasoning what impact one's actions will have is, shall we say, muddled(?).

I think you need to look at all aspects of the person: grades, legal issue (if any), etc. That's how you make your determination and Yuri would never have made it this far in the process if either were an issue--this staff knows the rules and they know not to waste time on somebody who doesn't have a shot at clearing admissions.

I would sincerely hope that ND admissions would look beyond this incident or at least let him explain.

I am really enjoying the respectful and thoughtful comments from you guys. I don't really have much to add to this other than it is an unfortunate break for Yuri and I hope he is able to move past this

I think the problem is people, young and old, need to realize that there is nothing private on the internet. Once it is done it is for the world to see and can never be taken back. Unfortunately, Yuri and many others are finding out the hard way.

I'd be hiring a lawyer ASAP if I were Yuri. To me, that is kind of bullshit. I think he potentially has a lawsuit here, anyone agree?

This is ridiculous...you're just scrambling to assign blame to the Michigan people, when Yuri bears 95% of the responsibility for tweeting those things in the first place.

This really sucks for Yuri. From what someone else said, alot of the stuff he posted were lyrics from rap songs. If that is the case then it REALLY sucks.

I went to a Jesuit Catholic High school. There were things that were clearly against the rules. So we did them. We knew if we were caught that we would be expelled. We did them in secret, like thieves in the night. BECAUSE WE KNEW THAT IF WE GOT CAUGHT WE WOULD BE EXPELLED.

When I was in the service we profiled everybody before they became part of our unit. Nobody with any traits or tendencies toward antisocial behavior was allowed in. Why would you want only the people that have the hardest time taking a human life in a force designed to kill people? TEAMWORK.

What lawyer or admission department would let any player in to a school where that player had violated the code of conduct, prior to admission, to the point where they would be expelled if they did that after they were admitted?

I do not mean this as judgment or wish any harm to Mr. Wright, but I am a father of four daughters, and believe me, if anyone any of my girls was seeing did something like this, they would have some 'splainin' to do.

No, I don't think so. He didn't post stuff that was very Catholic and it is a private school. I am positive it was in violation of their school code or whatever.

He may have a lawsuit, but it's probably not a winning cause. It's a private school, they have a lot of leeway in terms of dismissing kids for code of conduct violations. He'd probably have to show he received different treatment from others who have done the same or a very similar thing.

I don't think he is the first 17 year old to make a bad decision.......I hope he gets a chance to show everyone what he is really about, this just reeks of a kid making bad decisions.....

~99% of teenage men think like Yuri Wright's tweets.

Titan through and through . . . seventh class, two Shoebowls. Hell yea!

And com'mon Buster, 99% of today's "teenage men" would shave their chest hair if they had any. 50% would beat up some kid on video, and post it on YouTube.

Depends on what the contract that you sign to get into the school? Every private school is different.

@BryanDFischer:

Re: Yuri Wright. RT @Spiewak: Been told he's "radioactive"

Still no comment from Shumate. Would love to hear his thoughts on this.
