What would it take for this year's DB haul to equal last year's D-Line haul?

So, for last year, our high 4 or 5 star guys were Lynch, Tuitt, and Williams, with solid 3 or low 4 star guys, Rabassa, Niklas, and a few others.

This year, our high 4 or 5 star guys are Shepard and Darby. The rest are mostly low 4 star or 3 star. So, what does it take for this years secondary haul to equal last years D-line haul?

It is a fair assumption that we get Shumate, a strong 4 star player. I think we have a strong chance of landing one of either Wright and Poole, both of which are high 4 star or 5 star players. IMO, that would give us a secondary haul about as epic as last year's D-line haul.

Thoughts?

I agree, the focus has been changed to building depth and quality. I think that he has approached this remarkably. If he can sustain this recruiting, given his penchant for player development, we should have some better days ahead.

If we can hang on to Tee & Darby, and snatch Shumate and either Wright or Poole, then that is a heck of a recruiting cycle for a position in dire need of upgrade. Hope it works out for the Irish.

Darby + Shepard + Shumate + Wright = Elite DB class.

Throw in Poole and you have yourself a naaaaaaasty class.

If we keep who we have now and add Shumate and Wright/Poole we will have the best DB class in the country hands down. No one will come close to us

honestly, our deffense was very solid last year, its our offense that forced the D to try and win games for us, once golson is in the backfield and cam roberson and atkinson are running threats, daniels and koyack develop our O and D will be BCS caliber

All the more reason why we must get our QB situation settled in 2012. We must prioritize entering 2013 with an established stud with game experience at QB, just as this D is entering its prime. That's the road I see to a potential championship season in 2013.

And while we're at it, let's kick a little A$$ in 2012 too.

The D was upgraded significantly up front...but our Dbacks were simply not reliable in coverage. Whatever the issue, we need great athletic material, and then someone to teach them who simply will not accept poor fundamentals...in fact if there was one thing our linebackers did poorly...it was get their heads around and make plays on the ball...it seemed to me the entire team was stricken with a disease that caused stiff necks and flailing when a ball was in the air...

just competent QB play and competent Dback play, and we are a very good football team...

This is what Kelly knows, now he just needs to prepare Golson and recruit/coach up those dbacks and we are a bcs team

...it'll be a little bumpy early next year...after 3 or 4 games WRs will be ok...Toma will make his catches, Eifert will make his...Jones can...I saw him make some dandy catches...but his focus was a little hit and miss...hope its a maturity thing. Not sure who will take Floyd's spot, or if we run some 2 back with Theo and Wood in at the same time. If we have a mobile QB that can put it on our guys most of the time...we'll be fine on O.

If our Dbacks steadily improve...I think we'll be fine on D.

Had we had better QB and d back play...I think we we were BCS in '11. Not sure in '12 yet, but we should compete in every single game...

Interested to see where Steel has us pre season...one of his big deals is how many close loses you had, and how you lost...He may have us higher than some think to start '12...we'll see.

If there was a saving grace at least ways we get to play Navy and Purdue in the first 2 games. I am not saying that they aren't good but that our defense will help our offense out. The 3rd game is against a Mich state team that had alot of seniors that won't be there any more. Our schdule helped us out.
