I just think the timeline doesn't add up to an ND commitment; but at the same time I understand why people think we might lead. A lot of it is smoke with Mahone and the other part is "vibes." We very well may land him, it's just my personal uninformed opinion that we won't. But hey, can't complain with 50/50 odds.

I also agree about the timeline seeming off....however, could be that his visit to W just confirmed what he was feeling....he wants to be Irish. We shall see and I have absolutely nothing of substance to base it on but I think he is going to come to SB.

A lot of people mentioned that he is being looked at for the slot. Maybe he would come in as a RB or at least get a shot at it. All I know is that we are limited in how many we can still take at this point. I'd hate to miss out on someone like Odenigbo because we filled up on WR (I know what the depth looks like with RB and WR).

If he came here he would play either Slot or RB. Kelly likes for them to be interchangeable ala Riddick.

Edit: Made my post more reasonable. Honest to goodness, idkwtf Kelly will do. lol I actually figured I just stir the pot with that comment.

i dont think that its a kelly requirement. i think when the player can swing, that's a plus. i think you would always want a dedication to a position so you do not have to cross train.

riddick at WR was a failed experiment. kelly was hoping for golden 2.0. didnt get it.

Need to stop projecting positions. Russel is a "skill" recruit and has flexibility. No one knows what the plan is.

Everyone in the PNW believes that Russell is making his announcement on Dec 29th because that's the date the Huskies play Baylor, not because ND is playing FSU that day. They believe he is a definite UW lock. I hope not, but it makes some sense to me.

It's Kee-var-ee in the interviews I've heard, but it can sound different depending on your accent.

“It’s not tough at all,” said Russell, when asked where he’s at in the process. “I know exactly where I’m going. I’m just not going to tell anyone until next week.”

Right now, he’s not tipping his cap on whether it will be Washington or Notre Dame. He plans to make his decision public during a ceremony at Mariner at noon Dec. 29 — there is a chance it will happen on the 28th.

“I saw myself going to that school a few weeks ago, probably before my Cal visit,” he said. “I kind of knew where I was going to go but I wanted to make sure.”

ESPN has a post on their West Recruiting blog with quotes from Russell saying he went to Cal that weekend. I posted a link, but when I do it says it needs to be approved by a mod. Must be because I'm a new poster.

EDIT from mods: Approved. Welcome!!!

I'm under 25 posts so I can't post links, but ESPN has an article with quotes from Russell saying he was at Cal the weekend of the 2nd.

Welcome to Irish Envy. I think that is around the date when Russell said we were recruiting him the hardest.

This is definitely interesting. If he says he knew where he wanted to go before visiting Cal on the 2nd (and he didn't visit Washington until the 9th), this could put ND in a good position.

But then again, he could have been Washington all along.

Recruiting will be the death of me.

That was my thinking as well. Gun to head, I'd say ND. That said, UW wouldn't be a surprise.

If we end up with Keivarae, well, I was expecting it, but (and I know you guys hate the term...so I'll use it) Russell is a RKG. bahahahaha

You're under serious consideration for a negative rep, Beau!

Husky Honks are feeling real good about landing Russell, but why wouldn't they? They have a 50/50 shot, and he played his HS ball practically in the backyard of UW. But then again, so did Garnett, so who knows? Sure hope he decides to be Irish!

I posted this earlier when Mahoney tweeted I know something u don't know...
Everyone assumed he was talking gunner but Mahones MO has always seemed to target Rb recruits... This was also the same day Russell announced a decision date ...I'm not saying he's irish but I think if u connect the dots that this is definitely a real possibility.
