Stupid move on A&M's part.
That's what I was thinking last night when I heard this.
You're going to try to transition to the SEC and fire your head coach? Who the hell will you replace him with? They better be damn good before your school turns to garbage.

Dont they have like the best RCTing class ever in there history? I dont know if Trey Williams even knows where ND is, but send the whole freakin staff to his house NOW.Like seriously put a staff member at each window and door.
From an AD point of view, taking on another buyout and not having a homerun replacement in line is insane.
He was 25-25 in his 4 years there. They snatched defeat from the grasp of victory in at least 3 games this year.
His tenure kind of reminded me of Chuck's at ND. Great name and pro pedigree, but this far into it, there was nothing done in his 4 year history to show he was actually going to turn it around. Sumlin is rumored to be at the top of their list. I'm sure Gary Kubiak's name will get thrown out there (just as it does every time there's an opening at A&M). I understand it's risky business replacing a coach, especially at a crucial juncture like this for Texas A&M, but I'm extremely confident they can replace him with another guy that can at least go 25-25 over their next 50 games. And I'm fairly confident they can replace him with a guy that can do better than that. There's a ton of alumni money and support there and it's located smack dab in the middle of one of the fertile crescents of recruiting land. The move to the SEC, and perhaps more importantly, their breakup with UT has that school and its backers fired up like they never have been before in their history. Plus there is a lot of talent on that team. Probably more than any other currently open job in the country. There will be multiple coaches angling and drooling for this job.
I live down here in TX and let me tell you, They wanted him gone. He's a lame duck. Plain and simple. They need someone to match their passion up in college station.
When you have as much talent down hethisre(TX recruiting) and you still can't win, you need to go. They gave him time, and he couldn't get it done. They need a guy that can recruit TX kids better than Stoops and Miles....you'll never out recruit Mack Brown down here, but you gotta be better than Stoops and Miles in your home state.
As far as coaches drooling for this job? Don't think so. At least not the first few years in the SEC. It's the guy that follows THAT guy that will be the prime job.
Kubiak would be an intriguing option... If the Texans could stay healthy they would be a contender. They are really well coached.
I just read Kubiak's wiki. I don't think they could dream up a better choice.

He really is a good fit. I wonder if he would be willing to leave Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, and Matt Shaub to lay his head down on the sacrificial alter of the SEC next season?
