I hope you guys are right but until BK actually wins something, I think he is hurting the program with his sideline antics. Holtz was a long time ago, these players weren't alive back then. I think the team is undisciplined, like our coach on the sidelines.

I got my butt chewed out so many times in HIGH SCHOOL football! these kids are playing for Notre Dame and Kelly is trying to get rid of the loser mentality these kids have and I, for one, am all for it.

I think we all hope he is the right coach. Right now this team still plays sloppy football and you cant help but to think the QB position has been mismanaged all season long. I think a lot was lined up for this team to do more this season (schedule, Floyd, etc.) and they disappointed, though many will say they did what was expected of them. To each their own I suppose.

  • More reason to yell at the kids then, right?
  • So you want ND to compete at a Bama level in Kelly's second season?
  • So you don't think ND could win 4 SEC games, 5 ACC games, or 6 Big Ten games, but you want them to join a conference and expect improvement?
What are you smoking?

I guess I am smoking reality. Nobody is going to take this team seriously or give us a shot at the national title with this schedule. If we were undefeated right now, we would get a BCS bid but would be like Houston and have several 1 loss teams in front of us. Joining a BCS conference and winning is the only way we will ever win another title in today's world of BCS rankings. Our strength of schedule is 54, that is behind such powerhouses as Tulsa, Kentucky and Maryland.

Kelly once again made a decision and stuck with it. He is not scared to go against the grain. He has learned a lot tonight for sure. He learned it because of the many years he has under the belt. I, my friend, love him too!

Reps

even a complete fool could have made that decision tonight

Kelly has made us tougher, but too often his teams look as sloppy as Gerry Faust's. Anybody who witnessed that era knows what I'm talking about. If Kelly doesn't correct this problem, we'll be a perennial 8-4, 9-3 team under him. We can't be jumping off sides, blowing assignments, turning the ball over, not have a punt return game etc. etc. and expect to be a Top 10 program. The discipline should be showing up by now like the toughness is. Sadly, it isn't.

1. Is Brian Kelly out there on the defensive line jumping off-sides? No. Players learn this in peewee football, and should not happen period, but that would be on the players.

2. Is Kelly out there covering wide receivers? No. Does Kelly even have anything to do with the defense? No.

3. Is Kelly out there throwing the football to the defense? No.

4. Okay, the punt return game sucks....

You can hammer it and hammer it and hammer it into their heads about simple procedures, don't take penalties, set the players up with a game plan, but only the players can go out and execute, or not execute...

Kelly never gave Hendrix a chance until he was forced to tonight. Rees was average at best, with a horrible turnover ratio, and he still stuck with him. Never quite understood that. You're right, the OL stunk today.

Gerry Faust wasn't out there either.

I don't know how some coaches can get their teams to play disciplined, while others can't, but Kelly hasn't done it yet consistently at ND. Let's hope he figures it out.

We started ranked 16th in the nation. Had we dominated all competition and gone undefeated, we would have been in the title game, I bet. I'm pretty sure this schedule started off in the top 25 too, but a lot of the teams on our schedule flopped. We beat all those teams except USF. That's (sadly) improvement.

Our favorable opinion of our head coach has been devastating to our reputation on this site.

im sorry, i support the head coach of this team, theres nothing we could do to "stop" him, i dont really understand why a fan wouldnt support his head coach, the only person whos opinion really matters is Swarbrick's, hes the only one who could get rid of kelly if he saw fit.

Not true. Alumni can easily push out a coach. Once the money stops coming in, things can quickly change.

We got the damn Indianapolis Colts here that ain't won a damn game, look like **** every ####ing week and we have a coach that claps his hands at mistakes and tells us that were working to get better every freakin day has no damn emotion and the fans have had it. So u can bitch and moan all u want about not wanting him to yell at a damn adult because he jacked something up but I for one am happy that he acts like he ####ing cares!!!!

It is so easy to sit on the outside and say that the QB position has been mismanaged. We don't know what is going on inside the meeting rooms and on the practice field. I want to believe that he played the guy that gave him the best chance to win right now, and at the end of the day wins and losses are all that matter.

Love Brian Kelly. CW loses this game 42-0. Right track, right coach....it takes a whole lot of patience and time. But Coach K is the horse to pick in this race. Go Irish.

I disagree. Weis would have lost this game 42-38! Weis could score points. He's a better offensive mind than Kelly. It just happened to be that Weis did not have a good defense.

I was on the fence about BK when we hired him, all of last year and most of this year. I am fully on his bandwagon now. We are getting better, and while it is tough to look at scUM and see them win 10 games and know that should have been us, I still like where we are going. A few things have to change, though, for him (or any future ND coach) to be successful:

1. Let the man focus on coaching and recruiting. The demands on his time are ridiculous and they need to be evaluated. Can you imagine Saban putting up with all the time constraints...doubtbful. Coach needs to be able to do what he was brought in to do.

2. Scheduling needs to be re-evaluated. The top heavy nature of the schedule needs to be spread out and non-BCS teams need to be considered to fill the gap. Stepping up the quality of competition is understandable, but you cannot do that on a weekly basis (see LSU: bye, 'Bama, WKU, Ole Miss, Arkansas). You know you are going to get your best shot from everyone on your schedule, so be smart about your approach.

3. Add the video board and field turf. The home atmosphere at ND Stadium is severely lacking. It does not compare to where it once was. Sure, winning will help that as well, but Michigan, and Wake, taught us a great lesson about how to incorporate a video board and still keep with tradition. As for the turf...anything to avoid the potential for a field like the one we played on last night. Steps have to be taken to regain the competetive advantage at home.

Yeah, Monte Ball scored more touchdowns than Charlie Weis' Florida offense this year. I am over the "schematic advantage" argument.

Weis couldn't score much points at Florida this year. I doubt that's a fair statement. Once Kelly gets the QB position settle down, points will flow.

Really??? Maybe you should take a look at the great performance Weis put up last night against FSU....130 yds passing...54yds rushing...4 ints...and FSU is a team Wake Forrest beat....

Weis with a sophomore QB against the #6 team would have looked more like like 2008 USC
than what we saw last night. As he showed at ND, and is showing at Florida, his scheme requires a QB with tons of experience. Even with all the skill position speed he's got at Florida, without an experienced QB, his offense stinks.

Kelly is the right guy. Yes he has made a good amount of Questionable choices. Last night he knew he need some change. One thing about him is if he makes a choice theres not turning around.

My buddy at work is from Florida and knows people at UF. He said the players told them Weis' playbook is the size of a major city's phonebook and complex as can be... They're having a tough time grasping it.

Last night a friend of mine posted this on FB:
This ND head coach has lost the respect of his players. All he does is chew them out and I don't think he realizes, it's not effective.
Someone replied that it works for Saban, to which he replied,"yeah but Saban's kids not talk back like Rees did tonight.

He obviously doesn't know ****, but did anyone see Rees mouthing off to BK?, if he did I missed it.

2 things:

1) I don't doubt that at all, and that's why his offenses work in the pros (Pats and Chiefs) and with veteran QBs (Quinn, Clausen, and even Cassell.) And it's why it doesn't work with inexperienced and/or bad QBs (young Jimmy, all the FL QB's).

2) FL doesn't exactly recruit the world's smartest players. It should be no surprise to anyone that they're struggling to grasp a complex system. Muschamp wanted a pro-style offense, and now he has it. It takes time to grasp it (look at USC now from where they were last year and 2 yrs ago offensively - veteran QB, and once they finally grasped the offense, forget about it - they're sick now. Shocked we held them to only 24 pts).
