They had to be from St. Mary's. Time for a witch hunt.

Suspects.

Rumor is that he has mono, which means he will definitely miss the Stanford game and almost certainly the bowl game, as well.

Actually, it is not at all definite that he will miss the Stanford game (though likely) and it is VERY unlikely that he will miss the bowl game. The course of mono is variable, and it will depend on whether or not his spleen is englarged and to what degree (if it's enlarged they worry about rupture). Unless his spleen is grossly enlarged, he'll almost certainly play in the bowl game. Playing in the Stanford game will depend on the severity of his course these first few weeks.

Ok. So I talked one of stephon's good friends here at ND and she said that he sat out of the BC game so he could play in the Stanford game. He has to pass some mono tests but according to his friend he plans on playing Saturday. Obviously if the tests dont go as planned he wont be on the field, but that news was promising.

So he doesn't have Mono? Seems like he is hoping he can play this week.

According to his friend he had some form of mono but is expecting/hoping to play this weekend, but has to pass some medical tests to get approval, and expects to pass those tests.

Wishful thinking on his part? I'm thinking that might be the case.

Probably. But his friend made it seem as if it was more likely that he would play than not. Again, probably wishful thinking, I guess well find out soon.

Not doubting your friend at all, but I dont see any scenario where he intentionally sat out one game to play in the next. I have to believe if he couldve played against BC, he would have. Perhaps your friend meant the rest he got by not playing will serve him well next week.

I understand, and am of the same opinion as you. Just thought I'd relay that information to this board.

It's not that unlikely that he would rest a week in the hopes that he would be ready this week. As I said in the post above (that seems to have been ignored) the course of mono is VARIABLE. It is possible that he might be able to play this week (even if unlikely)... even if only with limited snaps.

That's good info, thanks for passing it along. I was just saying that perhaps his friend meant to say he might be ready bc he took last week off. Like I said, and you seem to agree with, it would be odd for a freshman, a guy they are trying to develop, to sit out when he would otherwise be able to play.

I agree with this. My point is I dont think he would sit out last week if he could play, just to play the next week.

If he has mono, there's no way they'll let him play. They wouldn't let me play Interhall when I had mono, and even told me not to play pickup basketball. There's too much danger of the spleen being ruptured.

And Sherm, are those from his facebook? Because that's a little creepy.

Most kids get mono right? I did in sophomore year of high school...it actually ravaged our football team...it was wild.

Some idiots took the top off the water coolers and were dipping their cups right in. One of those idiots had mono.

I only missed 1 week of practice/games due to it.
I should have missed 2...but I didn't realize what was going on until later.

But I've seen guys laid up for a month or more.

Better he gets it now as a developing freshman than later on when he and Lynch are hunting for BCS titles.
