Thanks for posting. I'm not sure I trust any poll or anybody to accurately identify the No. 1 and No. 2 teams. It's ridiculous, particularly since there seems to be a fetish about being undefeated. But the polls' top 25 probably do get them in that net somewhere. What I wish for is a 10-game season and then a tourney of the top 25: Top seven get first-round byes and 18 trim to 9 via first round. Then you've got 16.

The proposal also would eliminate automatic BCS bowl qualifying status currently given to the six major conferences. All conferences would be free to make their own deals with the 34 other existing bowls.

Like the Rose Bowl is going to dump the PAC ? and the Big ? for the SEC and ACC or the Mountain West. The existing major bowl/major conference tie ins will continue. Look for the Sugar Bowl to secure LSU and Alabama opposition suitable for an SEC win like the "good ole days".

this would be GREAT for nd, every bowl wants us, we could have deals with just about everybody. before you say anything, remember that under this format the BCS bowls wouldnt really exist anymore, so the whole "top 14 and top 8 ranking" rule wouldnt apply, leaving all the big bowls ( sugar, fiesta, rose, orange) to pick ND even with a lower ranking

Ya I don't like the fact that the current BCS ranking system will probably still be used to determine number 1 and 2. I like the playoff system. They say it is so complicated, but i really do not see how it is such a complex thing. And yes this would do nothing but benefit ND because we would be able to keep our independence.

This is still based on polls though. I'm sure there'd be arguments as to whether or not the number 6 or 7 team is truly the 6th or 7th best team. Same goes for the bottom end of the top 25. If the polls are what matter so much, then the current BCS system works fine: we get 1 vs. 2 every year.

Not saying I agree with all this, but people screaming for a playoff, tweaks, and changes need to realize most of their answers to the problem still use a subjective system to try and find an objective answer.

The problem is the polls...and the dumbsh!ts that vote in them.

The only way to truly remove all controversy from the post-season is to institute a play-off with the champions of four super-conferences. The super-conferences come with significant downside, though, so I'm not sure it's worth it.

It's worth noting that narrowing the BCS to the NC game would be a huge boost for Notre Dame. Money and TV ratings drive bowl selections, so we'd be playing in the most presitigious bowls every year.

Itd be awesome to play in the most presigious bowl every year but even though the sun and champs sports bowls pale in comparison to the 4 BCS games Id rather win one of those then go to a mjor bowl game and be throttled. But it would get more recruits our way if they see us in those games year in and year out its a two way street.
