Notre Dame was 33rd in the BCS last week, so we had some ground to make up. We're probably just outside. If we can make a decent move in the coaches poll after the BC game and then beat a 10-1 Stanford team, there is still a chance we could position ourselves for an at-large.

Who said anything about a BCS berth? I thought this was about being ranked in the BCS standings???

The man above you said so. I can't believe people are still talking BCS, guys that ship sailed when we tripped over USF on the way to blowing out Michigan somehow loss. Then the USC mudholing.

PS: Why the FSU hate? They lost to the #5 & #7 teams in the BCS, by 15 points total, and to a Wake team that gave us fits. Our best loss is to an over rated #18 UM team (I don't count USC because they aren't eligible but they are a top10 BCS imo if that matters) and to a bad bad USF team.

ND is a better team than Baylor, and should definitely be ranked ahead of them. Baylor's only good win was when they knocked off a ranked TCU in week 1. They barely beat a 2 win Kansas team this week and are still ranked? Come on.

I find it odd that last year with 7 wins we got to the Sun Bowl but this year with 8(yes I am giving us Boston College and assuming a loss to Stanford) we are gonna be put in the Champs Bowl which is a lower ranking bowl game. I really don't get this.

Florida State is terrible. Coming into this weekend, the six teams FSU had beat had combined for 14 wins, and only 5 of them were against BCS teams. That was 10 weeks into the season! How is that even possible? Then you throw in the anecdotal stuff, like our respective results vs. Wake Forrest, and the fact that they haven't beaten anyone even close to as good as Michigan State.

They haven't tricked the computers - we're far ahead of them in all of the computers. And we would be double-digit favorites if we played them. I couldn't want anything more than I want to play Florida State in a bowl game. You want to see fisted? That would be a fisting.

Also, do you guys think we've actually earned a Top 25 spot? I understand there are worse teams than ND in the top 25, but disregarding that, do you guys think we are one of the 25 best teams in the country? (Not being sardonic, genuine question)

I dont' think we are....I think the losses were bad losses and I'd be more happy with a strong finish and bowl win, than being ranked meaninglessly in the top 25.

I do think, we're better than a few of the teams that are ranked..ex. Texas.

Man, do you guys even watch college football? (Not being a **** - genuine question.) It isn't like ND is back in the top-5, in which case your post would be well taken. Its the top-25; you don't have to be perfect to be one of the best 25 teams. There is no possible way there are 25 teams in college football better than ND. You guys cite our three losses and lack of incredible wins as reasons we shouldn't be ranked, seemingly not realizing that we aren't the only team with losses or a without a handful of victories over top-10 teams. ND blew its chance to be a truly elite team this season in its first two games, but that doesn't mean we don't belong in the top-25. There are probably 17 or 18 non-elite teams ranked in the top-25.

Look through the resumes of the other teams in and around the top 25, then make a list of the 25 teams that are better, based on their resumes. I think some ND fans only watch Notre Dame and see that we are a flawed team, and assume that means we're terrible. If you watched other teams play you would realize that every team is flawed in one way or another. I watch games between two ranked teams (for example, this weekend's Nebraska/Penn State game) and I do not feel like I am watching teams better than the Irish. At all.

Like the Boise St, TCU, Utah, or any other non-AQ team would say. They play who is on the schedule and win. That is all they can do. They have also won 7-8 games.

They usually make that argument when they're undefeated. Honestly, we played who was on the schedule and went 1-3 against teams over .500 (assuming USF makes it there). So really... we played who was on the schedule this year... and lost.

I give a ****. I think Kelly has made ND a tougher football team than we were, and every game is a part of that process. If he adds in better talent in consecutive years he will have us back to being a Top 10 team. So, the process of watching us build towards something better matters to me.

Sun Bowl is ACC #4 vs. Pac-12 #4. Champs Sports Bowl gets ACC #3 vs. Big East #2 (or Notre Dame).

The problem is that all of the "second-tier" bowls (Cotton, Capital One, Outback, Chick-Fil-A) have stone-cold conference tie-ins that Notre Dame doesn't get near because the Big East is terrible. The Champs Sports Bowl is really the best non-BCS game Notre Dame can get into as things stand.

I was actually not aware those were the rankings. Well after we beat Florida State this year maybe we can see Florida next year in abowl just to keep working our way through the state.

When it comes down to it, ND has no one to blame but themselves. Horrible losses to South Florida and Michigan, in my mind, takes away our ability to bitch about where we are ranked. As far as Florida State goes, let's get them in the bowl and see who is the better team. With 3 losses, I am just happy we are ranked at all. I totally understand why Auburn is ranked #24 in the BCS. Yes they were blown out by 4 teams in the top 15, but they are not ranked in the top #15 of the BCS. They also have a very nice win over South Carolina on the Road. End of the day if they sweat out a close win against someone, big deal. A win is a win. Does it count against us that we only barely beat PItt? No, We are in the mix and if we win out (not likely) we will move ahead of some teams including Texas and Auburn.
