Trevond Reese was prepped for his unofficial visit to Notre Dame this weekend by his friend Ryan Switzer, who took an unofficial visit to South Bend last week for the USC game, but Reese was still blown away.
“It was more than I expected it to be,” the 6-foot-1, 195-pound athlete from Dunbar, W. Va., (South Charleston) said.
Reese doesn’t have any offers yet, but is receiving interest from Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Marshall. The Notre Dame visit has given the Irish an early lead.
“They’re at the top,” he said. “Number one.”
Reese felt the trip to South Bend was different than ones he’s taken in the past.
“I thought it was going to be like Marshall, but they showed more things and were real in depth with everything they showed,” he said. “The tour was nice, the lounges, the facilities were good. It was better than I thought it would be.”
Reese enjoyed the tour of campus and the facilities.
“I saw Touchdown Jesus, the walk, the practice field and indoor facility and the Gug,” he said. “I also saw the science building and the dorms. It was real nice. It was old-fashioned, but that’s how I like it.”
Reese also liked Notre Dame Stadium.
“The stadium was tremendous,” he said. “It was big. I like how it goes all of the way around. The atmosphere was crazy. I like how the fans support their team and cheer loud for them.”
The game wasn’t too competitive as Notre Dame got on top of Navy early and ran away for a 56-14 victory, but Reese still had fun.
“The game was nice,” he said. “Navy just couldn’t compete. I like how Coach Kelly spreads his players out and gives them the opportunity to make big plays.”
Reese, who has been timed at 4.5 in the 40-yard dash, could play running back, receiver, cornerback or safety and college and believes that versatility is one of his greatest strengths. He got to spend time with the Notre Dame coaches, but they didn’t give him any idea where they see him playing at the next level.
“I talked to Coach (Chuck) Martin,” said Reese. “He just told me he was glad for me to come spend the weekend with them. He wants to see me back and he’ll be in contact soon.”
