But in all seriousness, what do you even say to that kid at this point. Do you just urge him to quit or transfer or become a pseudo-coach? I have no idea how I would handle him right now.
Thoughts?

EDIT: Think Steve Bartman effect.

Give me a break with all this Crist bashing.
The kid hasn't played in 7 calendar weeks. All he has seen was limited practice.
He comes in and is making some great throws.
He makes a slip-up with the handoff on a little flip-play and it hurts us.
Get over it. The kid has heart and came in tough when we needed him.

^^^^^ +1

Crist didn't lose this game. Was that like the first or second snap all year taken under center????

I am actually a Crist supporter too... there I said it...

I will go to my grave saying ND would find a way to lose ANY big game until proven otherwise... which they haven't since at least 02....

poor kid...

Not so much saying its his fault but the effects of his actions have been gigantic. It weighs on the psyche. That's my point is it has to be affecting him mentally.

Crist made one very big mistake in his limited time in the game...obviously he is gonna get a lot of the blame because it is easier for people to blame one guy and one play than it is for them to blame it on things like lack of running game, awful run defense, etc.

I actually feel bad for him. He just can't seem to get a break at ND. That said, I won't shed a tear if he never hits the field again.

I don't care how many snaps he's taken this season...he's a fifth year senior...not like Weis ran the spread he should know how to handle a ball under center. Plain and simple we had USC on the ropes and Crist let us down.

Great throws?

His first pass was EXACTLY what everyone's been complaining about with him! Threw the ball right in the receiver's feet. They made a good play to catch it but damn...

ND loses after Crist destroyed the confidence they built. Its a familiar script. I wanted to like Crist but he's a disaster.

No chit... It seems some here think he goes in actually tries to lose... His throws where quick and precise tonight. I do feel sorry for him dearly.... He loves this team and I know he is going to feel it later on.... Keep your head up Crist... you weren't the reason for this loss buddy!!!!

WE WERE GOING TO TIE THE GAME!

I realize you win as a team and lose as a team but damn, that 14 point swing (which is what we lost by) was all on him!

Is it any surprise the rest of the team misfired after that? They had climbed a long way to get back into that game and Dayne ripped their heart out.

He deserves A LOT of blame there.

It does matter how many snaps he's taken.
Not only from a repetition standpoint, but the fact that in Kelly's offense you barely ever see the QB under the gun.For him to come in after Rees gets injured in front of all that pressure has got to be incredibly difficult.Cut the kid some slack.
I wanted that TD as much as anyone...it could have tremendously changed the game,it could have done nothing but delay the inevitable. We'll never know. But back off the kid.

I feel so bad for Crist. Comes in in relief of Clausen in '09, blows out his knee. Having an okay season in '10, blows out his other knee while the team finishes 4-0 without him. Named the starter in '11, has an iffy first half (it really wasn't thatttt bad) and is pulled. Comes in in relief of Rees and fumbles the snap at the goal line. If you're Crist, how do you even wake up and go to practice this week? Poor guy

After no action and his first pass was at his feet.... you could do better?? Come on man, you are going to put all your chips in on one pass???

Stop bashing Danye Crist. He played great that drive, than our extremely gifted smarter than all coaches in college football pulled him and put in Andrew Hendrix and stopped the momentum Danye Crist was having. Sorry that's NOT on Danye Crist, point the finger at our OVERRATED coach, Bryan Kelly. Someone please tell AD Jack Swarbrick to call Urban Meyer.

Bottom line is that it was his fault. But given all that has happened with him it serves no purpose to pile on. He has to feel like ****. Dayne isn't the single reason why we lost this game. His error was just one of many by that team.

Really?

Are you really trying to blame Brian Kelly for Crist fumbling a snap? Really?

Dayne Crist is a college kid. You are a jerk.

Aren't you the ****ing man opening up a thread like this. What a low life.

Dayne Crist will make more money in his lifetime than you.

I'm not sure what I said that was insulting to him. If you have any idea of who Steve Bartman is then you might realize that i'm saying Crist is an easy scapegoat who has really done nothing wrong. I feel incredibly bad for the kid because he has given everything that he possibly could to succeed. I was hoping to spark discussion on how to handle a situation like this in order to avoid the torture that befell Steve Bartman.

I'm assuming you are drunk and misread what I typed...

I think people need to lay off Dayne a bit. He made a mistake. Many other mistakes were made that caused us to lose tonight. Dayne Crist is a great representative of Notre Dame.

Go **** yourself. It's impossible to describe the challenge of the situation Crist seas put in. He rose to the challenge, marched us down the field, established a rhythm and then disaster struck. Devastating play, but this game is not on Crist. The D Was hapless, the running game forgotten and Tommy is ineffective against athletic Ds. Crist is definitely snakebit, but given the circumstances, he's last in line for blame tonight.

pretty sure he will be an ohio state coach here in the future. Honestly as upset as i am with everything now if we fire kelly, then what do we do?
