i was thinking of taking my blue ND flag to the game and when we score me and my girl were going th hold it up since were going to be right behind the tunnel... just wondered if it's cool to do that i don't want to get anyone pissed..

Knowing the usual crowd, it'd probably be frowned upon. If it's the USC game, all bets are off! I say do it. We need to get that stadium rocking as much as possible.

This is what our stadium NEEDS! Granted, I don't want a bunch of crazy drunkards waving flags all over the place, getting in peoples way and obstructing the view.

Showing our pride in the team, and being excited about it though, is something that needs to be promoted.

Why shouldn't we be passionate about our team and want to show our flag.

Kudos to you for trying to bring it back.

Along these lines, does anyone know if Purdue has any restrictions on bringing signs to games?

I seriously wouldn't bring a sign. I can't tell you how many times I've been to sporting events or PPVs and theres been someone in front of me with a sign that obstructed view and annoyed me to death.

The flag should be okay, I'm all for some team pride and trying to help get the stadium rocking. Just be somewhat conservative with it's use, obviously don't hold it up all game, and take into account anyone behind you.

I think the flag is a great idea. It takes up much less room during the action of the game, and can be busted out when they score. We need that excitement in the stadium. We attended the MSU game and at times the crowd was excited, but never completely crazy. I've attended a few games at the Big House before and its absolutely crazy. I'll be at the U of M v Nebraska game, and I can only wish we would get like that.

The "social geometry" of the thing is that the longer the pole you can mount it on the less it hinders those behind you. That is mainly because when in motion it arcs in a greater amount of degrees and is in front of other people's eyes less split seconds. Also the relative angle of blockage of any object shrinks with distance and with a longer pole the hindered sitters will be higher up and further away.

Also the faster you wave the flag the less it interferes with vision. This is because the eye takes approximately six pictures per second and will get more clear shots in between obscurations with a fast flag. [there is a point however when you're so fast you take up all the split seconds due to this speed threshold].

I knew you guys wanted to know all of this, and I had nothing better to do.

OMM: I think you should go to the game with IrishTrinity so you can politely explain this to the gatekeepers when he is trying to bring a 40' pole into the stadium!

No signs. Flags are okay if you aren't constantly waving them. Standing and screaming is great and adds to the atmosphere, but I'd be pissed if my view was blocked all game by some stupidass sign like
Notre Dame is the
Best in the
Country!

I say go for it. Hoist it during scores, timeouts, all halftime long. Get really drunk too, announce your presence with authority!!!!!!!
