I was brought up to be an Irish fan from birth, but I've embraced it a lot the last 10 years or more. My first game was unfortunately the '93 BC game. I've seen a few stinkers since then too, but I've also seen some great games. My family has good ties to the university, my aunt and uncle both met on campus and got married, and two of their girls are students there now. I usually get to 3-4 games a season with season tickets from my grandparents, some nice seats 5 rows up in the boxed seats behind the away benches. Even in the rough years I'll still go to the games and yell loud to try and disrupt the opposing offense, no bandwagon fan here. Notre Dame is just a special place. I've been to plenty of other campuses around the country, mostly in Ohio, but no other one I've been to has the same feeling as Notre Dame.

I grew up a big Notre Dame fan. I'm 19 right now, my dad pretty much groomed me into being a fan, although I'm a bigger fan now than he ever was lol. My first halloween I went as an ND football player. To be honest there are few things in the world I love Notre dame outside of my family and friends. My first game was 5 years ago, and since then things haven't been the same. After you go to a game or even visit the university it really sucks you in. All of the history and tradition hits you. There are few things like that in life. Unfortionatly I didn't have the grades to be a student at the wonderful school but it still doesn't affect my love for the school.
I didn't want to go on a long rant I was just trying to explain it all

Catholic but not Irish of course. I did go to an Irish Catholic high school for 12 years though and attended an Irish Catholic church where the priest would give a thumbs up or down on Sunday morning indicating an ND win or loss.

How can you seriously be optimistic after watching them on saturday? REALLY? The schedule gets tougher my man, not easier. 0-3 is a real possibility.

I'm absolutely optimistic.Just think,we had the WORST possible start imaginable to a game, had it interrupted for almost 2 1/2 hours due to lightning, and our backup sophomore QB had to come in cold for our starter....and he went 24-34 for 296,2TDs and 2 picks(1 of which wasnt his fault) in one half. That's pretty impressive.
The mistakes that cost us the game are easily fixable, much more so than other problems. We still have a LOT to be optimistic about.

We're 1 game into the season. There is absolutely no reason to be freaking out.As a long-time Irish fan I realize all the crazy fans with the incredibly unrealistic expectations...you guys need to get over it.This is still a rebuilding season, and you should have known that to begin with.We have a legitimate chance to win every single game this year, but you have to be realistic and see we're most likely going to be around 9 wins.

I get that question a lot.

I live about 5 minutes south of Detroit. I hate Michigan because of all the bandwagon fans you see around here, combined with the fact that Ann Arbor is probably the most annoying city that one could visit. I hate Michigan State because two of my cousins went there and I always felt like there was a lot of pressure for me to go there.

I'm also Catholic and attended Catholic schools for 12 years. Attending Catholic schools not only brought me closer to my faith, but gave me a sense of unity with the religion as a whole. And of course, I'm big on tradition and no school has as much football tradition behind it as Notre Dame; the history, the uniforms, the stadium, the ethics. It also helps that the Irish have a television deal with NBC that allows me to watch virtually every single game.

So that's pretty much why I'm a Notre Dame fan. It's something I sometimes get criticized for, even when I explain why. Still, it's worth it, as there's nothing in the world quite like Notre Dame football.

I live in Bolingbrook (suburb in the Chicagoland area) and I used to watch ND football every Saturday, this WR from my local high school played for ND when I was a kid too, that also helped make me a fan of ND.

Grew up in the heart of USC country and hated ND because my dad did, although not an SC fan himself. Went to a catholic HS and college but I am atheist.

What did it for me? My HS traveled to Chicago my junior year for a game after which we bussed it to South Bend for a game. Being on that campus, going to a pep-rally, and then watching a game in that stadium turned me forever into a ND fan. Oh the first game I attended you ask? 1995 Northwestern upset of ND! I guess you could say that game set the tone for me as a fan. I'll never give it up though and I have been singing my son to sleep at night to the ND fight song. GO IRISH!

Wasn't born in South Bend, but grew up there for 6 years through elementary school and just fell in love with the place.Unfortunately at that age none of my friends and I knew anything about football,we were big into baseball and soccer. We went to Irish hockey and basketball games all the time.
Still have never been to a Home game at ND Stadium, but did go to a BG game once a long time ago. Only Irish game I've ever been to was in Knoxville a few years back when we messed up there qb.

Irish Catholic raised in Boston.
With a Father who roots for them and a Step-Mother who was accepted but couldn't afford tuition.
Can't really remember my Grandfather he passed when I was 3.
But what choice did I have.

Just curious as to how the IE community breaks down as far as the reason for Irish fandom. As for me, it was part of an Irish Catholic upbringing; Irish/Italian father & Irish/Polish mother. Notre Dame on Saturdays as far back as I can remember. No one in my family went to school there, but would love to send my own children there if it's in the cards. Of course, the legion of knee jerk Fighting Irish haters appeals to my need for adversity. You need that to build character.

I truly believe i was born a Notre Dame....that is my answer
