Either a player like William is a riverboat gambler [given what is going on with ND scholarship numbers and the number of other backs apparently offered] or perhaps he is that famous legendary creature, the "silent commit". I would understand the latter in a young man who wants the fun of all the OVs, but it sure makes my life more nervous. Hope you're coming our way youngster; we need your talent.

As long as he takes his OV and makes a decision before the USC game, I imagine we would still have a spot for him.

RT @TJamesISR: Caught up with RB Will Mahone before he sets off on official visits. Said if not for summer unofficial at ND, he wouldn't be considering ND.

RT @TJamesISR: Mahone is down to final four of ND, Pittsburgh, Penn State, and Michigan State. Will send out story link when posted.

I thought Mahone was interested in ND regardless of visit.....but just shows you how important it is to get a recruit on campus because it will totally change their perspective.

I agree with you on all points. I thought Mahone was considering ND anyhow which is why he took the unofficial in the first place. It also goes to show you the power of getting these kids on campus.

I also dont know how positive I perceive these comments to be in our hopes of getting him to join the ND family. Hopefully is official goes just as well if not better than his unofficial and he likes the product we are putting on the field by that time. Kind of leads me back to the comment Boom Perkins made on Twitter the other day about playing RB in college, and maybe if Coach Kelly has a good indication of what our chances are og getting Will to come to ND. Still think Perkins is just being recruited as an athlete, but one can't help but wonder.

Mahone wasn't that high until staff convinced him to visit. He was a big reason Armani Reeves visited also.

Nope. Other way around my man. Armani visited first, on June 20th, and he was a big reason why Mahone visited on June 27th.

Is it possible the staff doesn't feel great with him, and are positioning Perkins to be the bruising back we need?

Rivals compares him to Rashard Mendenhall, which I think is a solid comparison. He has a similar build and run style.

A top 20 RB recruit + a win over top 15 MSU would calm a lot of people.

The idea of adding any recruit while we haven't won a game would be insane...in a good way of course. lol

His comments to 247 are very encouraging as well. Odds I would said are better than good.

Also said his visit to PSU was "alright."

they need to smack the spartans in front of him to seel the deal, along with a domination of pitt

I don't know about any smacking or dominating, but two wins would be great! The Irish need to get one in the damn WIN column, plain and simple!

errrrr...I love Mahone and he was the big back I wanted this cycle, but I don't think he has Mendehall's breakaway speed.

Im a Steelers fan and trust me he isn't 4.44 fast. Wish he was though. However, he is pretty quick for a guy his size just like Mahone.

Mahone twitter reply to a hater:

“@swintoskyl: @willywavessvoxo enjoy ND and their mediocrity haha #rudywasoffsides” that's why they got the number 8 recruiting class. :)

Now let's f'ing stomp Sparty this weekend and get this thing turned around.

PS. This is why stars and rankings matter. Recruits pay attention.

Maybe I'm really diggin deep here, but there is a premium thread on the above site titled "Four star has Irish in lead." Mahone is a four star....he's named a leader....gotta be us. The thread was started at 10:30 tonight also.
