Like Ben said, he did not de-commit because of Facebook. That's not the reason why you don't facebook the athletes and you definitely DON'T SEND THEM MESSAGES. The reason you don't do is because it's creepy, wrong, and if you've ever contributed money in any way whatsover to ND, may just be against NCAA regulations.

He did not decommit because he had a lot of friends on facebook, he decommitted because someone was sending him "crazy inboxes"!!! Hahahaha. How can nobody else think this is hilarious.

But seriously, don't stalk high school kids. Leave that to the professionals.

I think we are missing the point of the thread if we are focusing solely on the major reason for him decommiting. Facebook stalking of recruits is the real issue here, and obviously had a role in the situation as a whole. I just hope this is a warning call to those who friend and reach out to recruits during each cycle, and gives them a concrete example as to the harm they could actually do their school and the recruit.

Yeah, fine. I understand that. I'm not trying to debate about why the kid decommitted. I don't really care about Miss. St. or Ole Miss. I'm not friends with one football recruit or football player on facebook and I don't twitter. So all of this is kind of besides the point to me. I just think his terminology is fantastic and I want someone else to recognize the fact that he refers to messages as "inboxes" and affirm that is one of the funniest things ever.

Why all the concern over why this kid decommitted? Everyone knows it is creepy to stalk high school kids online. The hilarity of his message about it is more important to me.

Way to sum up the point of this thread. Look at what Lynch's and Tuitt's mothers went through on other message boards, I can't imagine what these kids go through on facebook.

An interesting point a poster on TOS pointed out is the recruiting tactics other schools can (and probably will / are) use is having people friend and harass these recruits away from a school of choice to give their school a better chance. Terrible thing to do, but recruiting is an ugly business, and that would be a very tough tactic to trace or uncover.

I was wondering that very thing when I read about this...this just seemed like a hatchet job to me...I know there are some seriously disturbed and obsessed folks out there...but most folks are only moderately south of the sanity line...and as such are driven by greed like normal folks...and can regulate themselves a little if they think they may lose the object of their obsession...

As for being around twitter and facebook, well...I just think parents and advisors should keep these kids away from Twitter and facebook etc. until they sign, otherwise they are candidates for manipulation/sabotage...

And surely only "creeps" and other trash will friend him because only those types would do something heinous like that! LOL! Then when he accepts 200 new "friends" and one of them is a GT fan disguised as ND fan in some super secret recruiting black ops says something bad about him or his mom we can all lament about the true agony that tuitt...errr I mean the "creeps" put him through. Lol! What a tragedy!

And if I asserted to the world via facebook how poor my family was while I was switching my commitment to play football from one major program to another, I wouldn't turn around and post a picture of my brand new truck that, by happy coincidence, I took possession of on my first day of school at the school I ultimately chose.

Meaning if i were a recruit i would deny people the ones that are mentioned in this story

A lot of recruits love the attention, some wan't to see how much the schools fan base wants them. So I agree fans should not message them personally, but I do not see a problem with them friending or posting comments to support the school as long as they are not personal attacks.
