So much hostility and defensivness over the fact that someone representing many other fans is making the case for REES over Crist.

You seem to think its perfectly kosher for you to point out every defect in Rees's game in your argument for Crists superiority. But you find it offensive that i would point out the defects in Crists game to make my argument for Rees.

Thats somehow smacks of an emotional investment in Crist that makes it hard to accept his game is far from flawless.

My facts are from a fith grader

And your facts are from a true analyst ---my my

Quarterback rating--favors REES

Turnovers favor crist--as you say

Completion % favors REES

More passing yards favors Crist---

More rushing yards for Crist

Higher rate of touchdown passes for REES

Carrying the offense is totally subjective---Crist carried the offense to alot of losses--so that one stats do not bear out.

Tougher throws---another debateable point since crist missed so many throws in sloppy fashion

But even if you think you have a case for those two --they are more then offset by

Better winning record for Rees---a stat that you can spin but it is what it is a fact!

Less drive killing sacks taken by REES the QB with the quicker release and quicker decsions---Thats a FACT!

Crist was better on 3rd and short

Rees was better on 3rd and long

Then there this huge factor---Crist had the benifit of the 1st team reps and the focus of all the coaches since spring, since kelly was hired!---Crist had 8 games to start in and took 1st team reps weak after weak---Crist had Rudolph--Crist had Allen--Crist had Riddeck

Rees came in COLD--a true frosh-- he came in at one of the lowest points in years---the sullivan sadness---the injuries--all the freakin lossses---many were QUESTIONING BOTH CRIST AND KELLY after the navy game.---Rees had no first team reps till the utah game------WITH ALL THAT AGAINST HIM---HE PLAYED TOUCHDOWN 4 TOUCHDOWN with dayne---matched or exceeded him in most every stat, stats THAT ARE UNIVERSALLY USED TO RATE QBs---
And promptly delivered three of the biggest wins at ND in 10 years!

So there you go--you can repeat i don't answer your points--of course i do!---I give Crist credit it some area's but it is ABSOLUTELY UNDENIABLE FACT that Rees matched or exceeded dayne in many area's even though he was only a few months out of HIGH SCHOOL!

So the fact that you are so touchy & defensive about an alternative evaluation from yours is NOT MY FAULT!---I make a clean case-- a good case---you may disagree--you may give more weight to what you like---but to simply say the argument for REES IS A 5TH GRADE ARGUMENT---

My goodness man--you have just trashed the coach and the staff for holding a spring sham of a competition---or else just being foolish thinking this is a close call between these two players.

Of course its a close call---thats why it has not been made and won't be until so late.----------Rocket you seem to have a depak chopra thing going on--- you accuse me of what you do yourself---YOU DON'T WANT TO GIVE ANY WEIGHT TO THE COUNTER ARGUMENT. ----I have given dayne his due--his physical tools are better---and his statistics are similar---

It is you who does not seem capable of seeing the opposing view---You take every standard for rating a QB --QB rating--Completion %---TD's---Wins and losses--Sacks taken---ALL THE UNIVERSAL STATS USED AT EVERY LEVEL OF FOOTBALL YOU THROW OUT AS SO MUCH 5th GRADE MANIPULATION!---The only standard you like are the ones that favor Crist--INTs--Rushing Yards

It appears to me you have a huge EMOTIONAL investment in dayne and take what is a legitimate and CLOSE debate and dismiss it as a big attack!---the coaches are all either liars or stupid by your thinking.

Face the FACT---Rees vs Crist was named by espn and several other pubs as one of the two or three KEY QB battles this season----On espn guys like andre ware and jesse palmer like REES---1000s of ND fans like REES---Lots of fence sitters ( whatever the coach decides types)---And a large contingent that expect dayne to win the job----with many of them far from overflowing with confidence.

The future is likely golson---some like hendricks----but this season there will Be a QB competition from WIRE TO WIRE!

Don't take it so personally---Its an interesting competition---its an unsettled competition---and its unclear how strong a grip whomever gets the starting nod will have on the position.

I think if you relax and look at this debate in a rational manner , you have to admit this is a battle between two guys that have legitimate rights to lay claim to the strating role.

It is not a battle between the forces of good and the forces of evil !

take care

Aloha- (didn't want to quote your post just because its very long)

I agree with all your points, I am not against nor for you. But you make very valid points.

I have been watching alot of the 2010 games (mostly in anticipation for the 2011 season)

What I have come to the conclusion of is that Crist has better physical skills than Rees by a mile, but not very strong mentally. For one reason or another. Rees of course seems to have more strength mentally but lacks the physical tools that Crist possesses.

Like many have said at the beginning of the season Crist was learning a new system and the second string QB's weren't getting as many reps as maybe they should have. After the Michigan game the second string received more reps. So in a sense Crist, Rees, and Montana at the time were receiving alot of the reps.

By the time Rees took over he had alot of time to "hold a clipboard" and understand the system mentally. Thats what alot of experts suggest NFL rookie QB's to do for at least half a season before being thrown into the fire. To help with the mental aspect of things Then, also, around that time the coaching staff changed playcalling philosophies. Which seemed to benefit Rees' physical attributes.

I personally feel Crist should get the starting nod, or at least be the front runner until someone really just blows the coaches away. For the fact he was the starter before he was injuried, why take it away from him just because he was injuried? Crist has at a tops 2 more years of eligibilty left, give him is due to prove himself. If he, again struggles to prove his mental toughness than Rees has proven he can take over.

Rees should be the second in line to take over before throwing a redshirt freshman or a true freshman into the fire.

At the end of the day I fully and completely trust the coaching staff, if Crist is the starter I will be behind him 100% and vise versa for Rees. Same with Hendrix or Golson.

Go Irish!!

Quarterback rating--favors REES

Like I said before, are you still taking in to account his 7 passes against navy that got him a 180+ passer rating? It's not really fair.
