Brian Kelly: Irish need to beat SEC team - College Football Nation Blog - ESPN
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly ventured into SEC country on Tuesday to speak to an alumni chapter in Huntsville, Ala. He didn't shy away from talking about that powerful league, either.
Though the Irish don't have any SEC teams on the schedule in the near future, Kelly said he hoped to play one in a BCS bowl this season.
"Notre Dame will be taken serious when they beat an SEC team," he said.
The last time the Irish played an SEC team, it wasn't pretty. They lost 41-14 to LSU in the 2007 Sugar Bowl. The last regular-season game against the SEC was in 2005, a 41-21 win over Tennessee at home. The year before, Notre Dame won 17-14 in Knoxville.
Notre Dame is 21-13 all time against the SEC, but recent games have been few and far between.
Kelly already made some fans in SEC land. As part of his trip, he donated $5,000 toward helping the victims of the recent tornadoes in Alabama.
