ESPN’s Rece Davis and… Mark May to host Irish Legends golf tourney | Inside the Irish

Nothing really that amazing, but thought it was interesting and worth posting.
You’ve got to hand it to this Brian Kelly guy. It’s almost as if he’s been reading Irish message-boards these past few years, identifying the collective thorns in the side of ND Nation and pulling them out one by one.

Public Enemy No. 1? Urban Meyer — the head coach had his “dream job” on the table and took the Florida job instead. Making things worse, he starts winning national championships and stealing Irish recruits. Kelly gets Meyer on speed-dial, invites him to speak at the Irish summer camp, and all of a sudden Urban is wearing the Blue & Gold again, talking up the Irish program on ESPN.

Sticking with ESPN, there’s nobody tougher on the Irish football program than studio analyst Mark May. Whether it’s the result of sitting next to Lou Holtz every Saturday or his playing days at Pitt, May seemed to almost delight in the struggles of Charlie Weis’ Irish after the former Notre Dame coach lit up Pittsburgh in his debut back in 2005.

While May predicting 10 wins for the Irish last year raised more than a few eyebrows, getting the College Football Hall of Famer back to South Bend to take place in the Irish Legends Charity Golf Classic… well, that’s pretty impressive.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Fans of college football and the game of golf who would like to help three great charities and meet University of Notre Dame coaching legends Ara Parseghian and Lou Holtz plus current Irish football coach Brian Kelly are invited to participate in the fifth annual Irish Legends Charity Golf Classic.

This year’s event, presented by O’Rourke’s Public House (formerly Kildare’s) features an “Evening with Legends” on Sunday, June 26, and the “Irish Legends Golf” on Monday, June 27. Proceeds from the event support Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation, Lou Holtz Charitable Foundation and Kelly Cares Foundation.

The Sunday event is set for Club Naimoli at Purcell Pavilion on Notre Dame’s campus with a reception beginning at 5 p.m. EDT and the program at 6 p.m. ESPN personalities Rece Davis and Mark May host the special evening where fans will have the opportunity to participate in an auction of rare memorabilia and unique experiences. Those interested in only attending the Sunday reception and auction may purchase individual tickets for $200.
I half expect Kelly to hop a plane to Pakistan and iron out some of our country’s differences right now. Or start working on bringing Ty Willingham back to campus for next year’s tourney.

Kidding aside, for more information on the golf tournament and silent auction, check it out at UND.com.

All of this is to the good as long as "our side" behaves itself. Let all these guys become closet fans. Kelly the master stageman mixes his magic again.

Or it could be that May was right about CW.

I don't understand this perspective. May, McShay, ESPN...they keep saying that we didn't deserve to be in the top 10. Those guys just don't like Notre Dame. Right?

Turns out...we weren't that good.

We're coming back fast. I'm so excited for the next 2 years. I think we'll be in the top 10 with Kelly...

If that happens, May isn't biased. He was right.

That said...I don't much like watching him. Maybe because he's been right about us.

I don't care for Mark May, but I don't really hate him, either.

Irish fans hate him because he talks negatively about Notre Dame, but he's usually been spot on in his predictions. I believe he predicted 3-9 in 2007, while the general consensus was 8-4, and Lou Holtz even claimed they would surprise and break the Top 10.

...... all in the game ....

Holtz = Passion, heart, dedication and hope

May = Counter all that. Opposing outlook, yet still a professional analyst to determine a predictable "IF" and "This and that"

McShay = Can suck it ... hate him...

I never go full go on Lou but I do understand that someone has to play devil advocate. May is that guy and as much as I hate it, he has been pretty close. I hate him because he always says, " IF Notre Dame has this and that we don't see just yet, they will be deadly. IF not then they will be this."

We now have a coach that can take a top ten class to better than #1 and a coach that can gameplay a 2nd string true freshman QB to win 4 games. That, no matter who you are, goes uncalled for!

Reality is still reality. Hit the field and match the hope. I just hope a number is in front of our name when season starts. We will either earn it or lose it STAT!!

^ agreed. If I remember right May picked ND to have 10 wins last year as his bold prediction to start the season. Now I don’t know if the was being facetious or not, sooo take it for what it was worth.

...so my buddy and I are standing there, and another guy from the football team comes up and says some stuff about my buddy's sister...while he stood there processing what the guy said, I buried the jewel from my class ring in this guy's forehead...

Fact is, the guy was right about my buddy's sister, but I hit him because he enjoyed saying it too much...to me thats Mark May...enjoyed it a little too much...He deserves the irish ire he gets.

If Kelly can get the guy invested a little...of course thats a good thing...If he turns into a fan...fine. But I won't apologize for wanting to punch the guy for the content AND delivery of what he said.
