Thanks for the post irishtrinity. I did not see the first video, but I caught this one. Lot's of hope. I'm fired up.

(What's up with all the internet cops?) Let the mods take care of it...

kirk herbstreit is a giant douche bag...he's gutless, it's a good thing he ran out of cbus for his sake and if he keeps it up he will not be welcome anywhere.

Guys,
Come on now!! Take off your kelly green sunglasses for a moment. I am the first guy to hate on the whole ESPN Irish bashing family, but I think this was a really fair assessment of ND in our current state.

They talked about how we are not yet one of those elite programs like UF, LSU, Alabama or the Suckeyes. This is true.

Their were compliments on how Kelly has us improving, we have momentum, we have upgraded the D. However, we still lack some skill position guys or the depth at skill position.

Let's look at a couple facts which would make any analyst question our success in 2011. First, who is going to QB?? Not many top 10 teams would be walking into a season without a designated starter. Second, if Floyd does not return to the team, who the heck is our go to WR??? Don't tell me that Goodman, TJ or maybe Walker, Smith, Toma put fear in any opponent. Third, we really have only two RB's on the roster. If Cierre goes down, how far does ND go with Jonas toting the rock??? Finally, the schedule includes about 10 bowl teams from 2010. While the OSU's of the world are playing Akron, Toledo, little sisters of the poor, ND is playing UM, MSU, USF. Our patsies include two academies which bring brutal option attacks. Our other patsies are BCS conference teams which most teams consider the MEAT of their schedule.

So, in the end this roundtable was not far off. Plus, they all said BK is the right guy and they believe we are headed the right direction. Go IRISH!!!

Yes, they can be found hanging out with the Yeti, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the rest of the urban legends.

I don't need anyone in Ohio to tell me how I should feel about Herbstreit. My take on the guy is that he has always been professional. He's reasonably intelligent, sticks mostly to the facts, and doesn't over-embellish too many things. Buckeye fans probably dislike him because he is always honest about the Buckeyes, including their weaknesses.

I don't know, I am from Ohio, and I have a brain. Though I don't agree with Herbie, (who is no longer from Ohio by the way, because so many buckeye fans think he is a big douche who hates the bucks, followed by Michigan fans who still blame him for losing Miles and getting Richrod instead). So I don't know, I think some unimaginative curmudgeons just are too quick to call people names instead of thinking through . . .

State warfare, no way, Ohio already did, and won, but Michigan got the UP. What a consolation!

Brain warfare, maybe. But not for me; I cannot see getting in a battle of wits with an opponent who comes half-armed.

Although he had some valid points, his delivery made his negativity towards ND VERY apparent. There were a load of different topics and points that good ole Kirk could hav3 discussed but he chose to be overly negative. I'm probably being over sensitive, just don't like anyone bashing on our team.

I've always liked Herbie. Plenty of reasonable people have said negative or bad things about Notre Dame. This is sports...toughen up.

Irish,
I understand that you are a HUGE ND fan. No bigger than I am. I spend about every waking minute thinking ND football, but I have taken my Blue and Gold shades off to realize that ND has not been that ELITE program the last 15 years.

ND is on its way back and will begin to have those consistent winning teams, but there are too many reasons why we are not elite, YET.

1. No BCS win in forever.
2. Only two bowl wins in last like 20 years.
3. Several 5+ loss seasons in recent decades
4. Multiple coaching failures. Davie, Ty, CW
5. Few NFL draft picks.

I will always root for the Irish with all my heart, but I try to be realistic.

I just watched it, some thoughts:

1) Jesse Palmer is a douche and needs to go away. I hate everything about him. He never coached, he has no unique insight, and even the way he held the pen while I talked to make him look like he knew what the **** he was talking about made me angry.

2) Kirk Herbstreit is guilty of the common sports logic flaw: "They haven't been good in a while, so they can't be good for a while." I mean all of his points were a) they haven't been consistently good since Holtz, and b) the team has lacked speed. I came away from that shaking my head at him. Don't get me wrong, he possessed valid concerns, but you could see Urban Meyer calmly give the "are you ****ing kidding me?" look when he said (to paraphrase) "can Notre Dame ever be good again?" I mean that is so 2004, when the national media said "can they recruit guys into Notre Dame?" The obvious answer since then has been that they can and have.

He ignored the speed recruited on defense, one of the best DL classes ever, and that they have recruited speed players from the south and west under Kelly (and Weis). I mean they have a commitment from THE FASTEST KID IN THE COUNTRY for this class. What more can you ask? Within the first few seconds he said "...and maybe Brian Kelly will eventually be able to recruit," ...ummm, what the **** are you talking about?

3) This was less about 2011 and more about 1997-2009, the Davie/Willingham/Weis era.

4) They all seem to like Kelly. Good. If they denied his success elsewhere I'd have lost it.

5) Urban Meyer showed that he is 100000x smarter than those three are every time he opened his mouth. He's just on another level. Never mind the fact that he's the only one of them to a) actually visit Notre Dame recently, b) watch their practices and analyze the players....he actually coached there before the fall from grace to appropriately juxtapose today's situation.

I like to think that the best way to represent the team/University is to live by the values that they most embody.

What sets ND apart from other schools?

A winning tradition: There are plenty of other schools out there that have comparable traditions of excellence on the football field. Michigan, USC, Ohio State, Alabama; all can rightly claim a deep and rich tradition, on the field.

The biggest difference between those schools and ND, is the commitment to Academics, to go along with the commitment to football. What distinguishes ND from the rest, is that it has built a great football tradition, while still maintaining a focus on intelligence. So, in order to represent them right, I think we have to represent them intelligently. Prudence in the face of uncertainty is generally considered to be a mark of intelligence. I think that's all that some of us are trying to get at.

very great post i see eveything your saying...

1. 2005 fiesta bowl 20 34 close/ 2007 lsu 41 14 we know..
2. 9 L 5 W bowls in last 20 yrs.. including 2009 2010
3. 8 5+ loss in last 20 yrs. 10 9+ wins in last 20 yrs pretty good
4. ND wants results to fast Ty, CW both good coaches not great head coaches
5. 110 nfl drafts since 1990

glad to hear you root for the irish, sad to see you doubt were elite.. michigan /usc fans would love it tho.. fo real i know were all fans but theres NO WAY i'll ever listen to ppl say were not or haven't been ELITE... WE ARE ND WE ARE COLLEGE FOOTBALL ELITE...
