Before you guys go jumping on him, EliteScouting has posted stuff of Jordan Prestwood and Aaron Lynch before and liked both those players for us (even though Prestwood eventually decommitted). He's seen Ferguson play live, which nobody here has done, and gave an honest opinion, which is welcomed here.

Scouts disagree on players all the time, and no scout is ever always right. Hopefully "Elite" is wrong here and others, including BK and staff, are right. No one will know for a long time. But we can hope for a strong senior season from Ferguson so he can put any doubts about his game to rest...

^This... and he clearly state he is a top 10-15 WR... so I don't understand wtf people are raging about.

Yeah, he looks to be about a 4.6 guy on tape. I compared him to Michael Floyd's high school tape (his official time out of high school was a 4.49) and Ferguson looked about a step slower.

sweet sweet sweet! Yes! I was hoping we'd pick up a decent sized WR to replace Michael. :) this is great! I hope hes not the last tall WR we get.

It's not like we haven't been landing these type of guys.

DaVaris Daniels has been listed as high as 6'4", and George Atkinson is a 6'1"/6'2" guy, as well.

Yeah, but they are both more electric / speed / shifty type WR (Yes, even Davaris). Justin is will walk in and be the only truly physical WR on the roster in 2012. Davaris has been bulking up though, maybe he can get to that point after some more time in the weight room.

With 4.5 speed, this talented skill player finished his junior season with 44 catches for 953 yards and 12 touchdowns.

According to an article on Bleacher, I know they arent the most reliable but they seem to think he is faster than a 4.8. I dont know where the 4.8 is coming from but his film doesnt suggest that he is that slow. I never see him get caught from behind in the video and he runs hard which I love out of a WR.

The closest coaching staffs to this young man are the staffs of the colleges in Florida. Every one of them offered him except USF. Those staffs must be seeing a lot out of him to offer. We MUST have gotten a winner here. Or did the whole state of Florida go temporarily insane except for Skip Holtz??

We had him at a 4.8 40...and I think that is pretty accurate. He needs to work on his speed.

Average Florida WR this year...you never know who is gonna blow up though. All in all it's a good take for you guys I think.

A South Florida HS Sports organization had these comments: "size", "athletic", "ability to get open", "possession receiver", "can get it done in the classroom". --- sounds good to me.

A Miami Herald football blog said: 6'2", 205, 4.5 forty, and grew up entirely in Philadelphia before coming to Florida last year, and was happy to go back north to play his college ball.

Bottom line: He is a stud. Welcome Justin!

Having followed the Fighting Irish since 1966, I suspect I'm a bit grayer at the temples than many of you fine folks that post on this site. I can still hear Lindsey Nelson voicing his excitement over a Hanratty to Seymour pass completion...but I digress. In the not so distant past, 4 and 5 star recruits seemed to stand in line waiting for offers to become part of the ND legacy. And frankly, I, like many Irish fans, became a little spoiled. For years it seemed like a top 5 recruiting class was a given - we rarely, if ever lost a top prospect from a Catholic high school anywhere in the country. I'm understating the obvious when I say things have changed in a last decade; recruiting is more competitive than ever, and it's truly become a big business. However, we, being the fans we are, sometimes find it difficult to understand (and accept) why we can't hand pick the recruits we want to represent our team and school. (We have 8 national championships for pete's sake!)

Then a recruit like Justin Ferguson comes along, who hasn't been anointed as a concensus 4 or 5 star prospect by all the supposed recruiting experts, and we begin to sweat and have anxiety attacks. This is where I take a deep breath, enjoy a sip from a fine cabernet, and put my faith in BK, Diaco, Alford, et al. to make the right choices... and here's why:

While Rivals, Scout, ESPN, The Ringer, etc. provide a definite value, their rankings tend to be based solely on athletic ability. Coach Kelly and his staff (much like former Oregon Duck coach Mike Bellotti and his staff) have their own "star system" for ranking players, and while it certainly includes a propect's athletic ability, it also includes many intangibles like character, community involvement, former teacher interviews, teammate perception, scholarship, and desire to be part of, and belief in the ND system. Our coaches have forgotten more about recruiting than I'll ever know. So in a nutshell, I'm supremely confident that Justin Ferguson (like ND's other 2012 commits) ranks very highly in the only "star system" that truly matters.

Go Irish!

Welcome to the site Couv Domer!!

Excellent first post too!

As many have said in previous threads, we are no experts. We need to let Kelly and Co. do the recruiting. BK knows who'll fit his system. And until I see otherwise, I'll continue to support BK's recruiting.

Funny thing. We had one of the big recruiting analysts in our school coming to talk to one of our Juniors to be before last season. The player was about to commit to a big time school. The analyst said" why commit now? If you wait you will get more stars. If you commit so early you are going to at least lose one." This shows you how awesome the services are. Makes more money for them when a 4/5 star is umcommited. If they commit early that player gives them a short term bump. If they wait people follow the player much more. System sucks!

As much as I and many others have faith in BK, the fact of the matter is this is only year 2. It's not like BK has been at this with ND or anywhere else at this high of a level making things work for a long time. It's not lack of faith. I would analogize it more closely to a woman who has been in bad relationship after bad relationship and then finally meets a genuinely good guy. Even though all the signs are there that this guy will treat her right, do the right things, say the right things, and just be a the right person for her, she can't help but half-expect him to turn out like the others. So, while BK has shown signs of being the right guy for ND, I'm scarred from the past 3 regimes, 4 if you count O'Leary's 15 minutes. BK seems like the right guy. He seems like he knows what he's doing. Heck- he's done a pretty great job so far developing guys more in 1 season than CW managed in 3 years with some of these guys. However, until this becomes the norm in South Bend, I think you're going to find at least some of us just waiting for that proverbial other shoe to drop- not that we want it to, just that it's been etched into our culture over the past decade and a half.

one thing i am noticing early in this cycle is how we've been able to invade others' territory and take players that are heavily coveted by the hometown teams in the region (Shepherd, Darby, Baratti, and now Ferguson) really gotta give the dues to the coaches so far.
