I didn't bring up royal blue or Madonna blue.

My point was basically...there are many different shades of navy blue and many different opinions and interpretations of what navy blue actually is.

And that Notre Dame wears a dark navy blue that for all intents and purposes is black. To quote Wiki: "Some people mistake navy blue for black because some navies (such as the United States Navy) use a shade of navy blue that is so dark it is practically black." That would be what Notre Dame does...at least on the uniforms.

I think the blue on the Irish Envy header is a nice shade of navy blue, but I would also consider something a little lighter (like my example) as navy blue as well. ND uniforms, especially the Tech-Fit ones, are darker than this header.

My point is that Navy Blue is Navy Blue. It has its own color code. And a darker or lighter shade has its own name and code. No such thing as "shades" of Navy blue. Keep in mind, Navy Blue against white, vs. gold, vs. pink can look different. Check this out: Blues Hex Color Codes: Hexadecimal codes for named colors used in HTML page features. Can you tell the difference between Cyan 2, Cyan, and Aqua safe?

Can you tell the difference? You might be able to notice a difference on splotches next to each other (as you posted), but not when you actually see the color "in action" especially when paired with another color (blue/gold, blue/orange etc...)

I completely agree that interpretations of color can be flat out wrong.

I was in charge of ordering uniforms for many teams. I learned quickly that many vendors and artists don't know what true colors are, or they are just trying to get rid of unsuccessful paint. A 4x4 in splotch might look good on that splotch, but folks can become amazed and angry when that 4x4 inch splotch covers an entire room, or uniform. Each color has its own color code and name. I also found out that if I wanted a royal blue look against white or gold, I might have to change my color code of blue in order to make it look royal vs. white or gold. What you posted as Navy, in my mind is closer to Royal...

I had asked specifically for royal and gold for a team uniform one time. The damn company sent us purple and yellow. I checked their color code book and dang it, they gave me a loose interpretation of the color code. It came out purple and yellow. I rejected the uniforms. That company lost mucho dollars because they printed an entire set of unis and jackets and sweats without asking for my approval on the final print of a single uniform. I was willing to spend the 100 bucks to check out a single uniform. Their bad..

I called my favorite car color Midnight Blue. Put a Navy Blue item next to a #10 gray (black), and you will see the obvious difference.

I like the shirt though. But I prefer simple grey (maybe a #4 or #5 grey, with Notre Dame printed on front. Nuff said. (I will buy this new shirt when I get the chance...lol)

BTW:

I know we're talking terms here, in lieu of actual class from France.

There is no class in France.

Unless you count Pits 101: How not to shave your pits.

Why do the French like stinky cheese?

In a room full of French people, you can't really smell the cheese.

Well I'm not sure what we're arguing about anymore, but I think we agree mostly. Yes, there is a Hex Code for navy blue but that doesn't prevent companies from manufacturing all different varieties and shades of navy blue.

I think my other main point was...the definition of navy blue doesn't come from these Hex Codes, but rather from people's opinions, and that's why "navy blue" has so many different shades.

For example, the splotch you showed us a page or two back as navy blue, in fact doesn't match the navy blue in the Hex Code, but is a much darker shade much like the two midnight blues in the Code. In fact, the one I showed even further back looks pretty close to what the Hex Code says is navy blue....but you said what I presented wasn't navy blue.

See what I mean?

So it is for all sorts of Notre Dame apparel and merchandise. I own some Adidas track pants and one of the newer ND track jackets...throw those on with a ND t-shirt and they are all pretty different colors, yet all considered navy blue.

It's complete madness. I think many ND fans tend to think navy blue is a lot darker than it is (if we believe the Hex code and other such systems) because we are used to the Irish wearing this very, very dark navy that is nearly black. Case in point being your reference for navy blue being darker than "normal" but similar to what the Irish wear.

I threw it out there earlier in the thread too. I'm probably way in the minority here, but I would be all for it. One game only.

hmm well I guess that makes two of us. And if we're right than we can band together and shout "TOLD YOU SO IE". ;)

I was never arguing. Simply my experience with "color" and trying to get companies to match exactly the look and color I wanted. Gold is gold. It is not yellow. Navy is navy. There is no Sky Navy or Maroon Navy. You can't tell a color by a small splotch. That is all.

Zing, really?

What's wrong with "boom?"

If a guy punched me in the face, and said, "Zing, " I would laugh.

If a guy punched me in the face, and said, "Boom," I would be less likely to engage.

Nonetheless, I am ****ing engaging.

Anyways... The shirt: It's ****ing ugly. Fugly. That was mentioned.

That characterizes the shirt: FUGLY!

God I'm pissed.
