Guys like Noor Davis are absolutely crucial for us to get because of the metrics of college football. You don't need to stretch yourself or get a bunch of pay-for-play problem children if you can get all of the good apples. The problem is schools like Stanford (and even Michigan, USC and UCLA to a degree) that offer a strong education and good football program. Even though Stanford could only half fill their stadium at 11-1 kids still wanted to go there because it's a great school with a great coach. We cannot let that keep happening.

Wayne Lyons, Blake Leuders, Alex Carter, etc.... the list is longer than most realize. That's why it's imperative that we beat down Stanford this year because the lifeblood of winning is good recruiting and we can't continue to lose great football prospects that are also great human beings to other schools. It should never happen with our educational opportunities + facilities + tradition + fans... but it will continue until we start winning consistently.
Tate Nicholas, TJ Jones, etc.
Stanford also has decent weather out there bro.

Oh I've been to Palo Alto. Got many a friend doing grad school out there. You're kinda missing my point... it's not about winning battles against Stanford... it's about winning every battle against Stanford. Stanford is a historical 2-10 type laughing stock that never fills its stadium. Yeah, we won't get every kid, but it's about going 9 for 10 not 5 for 10.

I see your point. Why are you not at grad school with your boys? Man that would be great to go to grad school there.

Noor on his Florida visit:

"It was an awesome experience," Davis said. "I had an opportunity not only to meet with Coach (Will) Muschamp and all the other coaches, but also President Bernie Machen and the Athletic Director, Jeremy Foley. It was an outstanding trip. I learned a lot of new things and had a great experience. Florida will definitely be in my top five and will be high on my list."

"Their academics are great at the University of Florida," Davis said. "They are second in the nation among public schools. They have great academic programs and great athletics. They have an awesome business school and communications department."

Not close to the Mendoza College of Business though.

If Academics are that important, it is a no decision they can't match ND their. But, they have won National Champs lately and we haven't. So, they have us on this. They just can't beat our diploma!!!

How can someone as intelligent as Davis possibly believe that Florida is a good school? Like seriously... how is that even possible? Do they brain wash everyone down there?

They invent facts. Used car salesmen can be very convincing sometimes. Especially to a 17 years old kid.

Okay well I may get heat here, but as a HS senior who is going to U Florida, I have to give credit for it being a great school for a public one. The brightest kids in the state go there and I would venture to say that Florida smartest 8,000 are just as bright as ND's. There are a crap load of smart fu***rs here. Has the reputation of a party school, but the kids are smart and the academics are great.

FYI, I got denied from ND (dream obviously) and plan to hopefully transfer in after a year. I'm still ND till I die!

I agree with this post.

Company I work for (Fortune 500) recruits Engineers (PHD) and UF is a school I visit alot to recruit. If a kid can focus there...=P

Sorry man, that's not true. Not trying to be a ****, I know lots of really smart kids that went to UF. Some went on to law school at some really good places like Georgetown, another kid is in med school, and a lot of guys went there for a year and transfered places. Miami and Florida are both better schools than people realize.

With all that being said, Florida is also really far from being close to ND. Like really, really far. I was very borderline (i.e. nervously checking the mailbox every day) getting into ND, UVa, Cornell and Dartmouth... but Florida sent me a letter (without me applying) saying I was accepted with a full scholarship all because I got National Merit. If the top 8000 kids at Florida were as smart as ND kids there is no way that they would be trying to buy test score/GPA boosters through a mailing list.

Again, I like UF a lot, it's a really good school with tons of intelligent kids, but the school itself and the 'top 8000' as a whole come up pretty far short of ND. But I think in state kids tend to have really inflated senses of their schools (like kids from Illinois at Notre Dame who always acted like UofI was 'awesome'... same thing with any Penn State grad you ever run into) compared to the rest of the country. It seems Noor Davis was either being nice to local reporters or he's buying the UF spin. I'm hoping it's the former.

As am I. I am a huge ND fan (obviously) and love Notre Dame way more than Florida.

But if Florida's 75th percentile is about the same as Notre Dame's 25th percentile and Florida's top 25% of it's class is about 8k then you should be able to assume that it's top 2k students are well in Note Dames average student admitted.

Again, there are some dumb kids, but if Florida admitted the same number or students as ND, the numbers and scores and GPA's would be about the same.

But who gives a crap, here's to Noor Davis coming to ND because they DO have way better academics!

If the point you are trying to make is that there are some kids that go to Florida that are smarter than some kids that go to ND then yes it makes sense, however, you can't really say the best 8,000 at UF are on the same level as ND because you are trying to compare a school that has over 34,000 in enrollment to one that has over 8,000. If you take the brightest at UF and compared them to the brightest at ND you would be very hard pressed to convince anyone (especially on here) that they are on the same level.

I just wrote that bc of the things people were saying about UF, I dont care about changing opinions or anything like that. I don't really care.

But I do disagree that the smartest few kids at ND are smarter than the smartest few at UF. But this isn't a place to argue about the college schools compared to each other. It's a place to talk about our Irish!

hahahaha now THAT'S a good one. Seriously though, I don't know if I'm more ignorant than most, but I was surprised to learn that Miami and Florida were actually pretty darn good schools after I graduated and got into the workforce. Miami gets such a bad rap for being "The U" and Florida gets a bad rap by association to FSU.

It's probably a good school for normal students, but for football players it's a different story. Who was that guy, 2 years ago, that did Management of special sporting events as a major? He was really fast.
