Future QB's: Who Would You Start?

This discussion really is all over the place!

True freshmen never do great. But there are a ton of second year players in recent memory who were.

I like Notre Dame's depth at QB. I think Hendrix or Golson are the future, and I don't think Kiel is walking into that situation, but I'd love to have him, make no mistake.

Rarely is a more appropriate word than "never". Definitive statements (or definitive interpretations of statements) are the crux of this thread. Now we've taken the argument to a new level (I suspect inadvertently) from redshirt starters and/or freshman fill-ins (starter injured) i.e. to true freshmen performing "great".

Philip Rivers was all ACC an top 10 or 12 QB as a freshman. BYU has a long history of successful Freeman QBs Deter, Young, McMahon, Beck, Feterik, and Hall.

Pryor wasn't "great" but 1300 Yds, a 12-4 TD-INT Ratio, and 3 loss season was pretty good for a freshman starter. Last's #8 NCAA QB Eff was Moniz at Hawaii. He threw for 2400 Yds as a true freshman. Godfrey of UCF threw for over 2100 as a true Freshman per the NCAA stats.

Most of the top ranked QBs didn't start as freshman, many didn't get any true freshman PT. PT is largely a function of personal performance/capability but depth and injuries are a factor. Ron Powlus was named the ND starting QB by Holtz over senior QB McDougal a few days before the '93 season. With the last great ND OLine Powlus might have won the NC. But a broken clavicle in practice changed that season and Powlus's career. Clausen was a true freshman starter behind one of the most porous OLines in ND history. Oh yeah and a few months after elbow surgery.

Yes he was. He was also drafted by the Twins and chose to go to ND instead.

Please do what I think you are about to do....

I love Joe, except when he went to the Skins. But, he is a bust then, at ND the only thing that matters to me, is wins, not stats or how they look in their uniforms. I dont care if a QB throws 5 times is whole career, as long as we win.

I might love that player, but it is all about the jewelry.

I just wanted to quote you saying that "Joe Theisman was a bust" before you came to your senses.

Philip Rivers was All

Young was recruited at DB, and BYU with the schedule they played could of started me. Great point in Powlus, and Clausen.

All that matters is NC, I cant believe how far us as ND fans have regressed. If we dont win the title, then the season is a bust, I still have the arrogance of old time fans.

When you are the QB at USC, Alabama, OU, etc... if you are the number 1 QB and you do not win a NC in your 4 years, you are a bust.
Was Joe the top QB prospect in the nation?

Sam Bradford was a HUUUUUGE bust.

Sam Bradford was a HUUUUUGE bust.

Im sure his stats are great, but I will remember him not winning a BCS game, or NC. Regardless of anything he did in college, you ask any OU fan, and without a NC, he is just ordinary.

I dont see any QB not on the roster that will leap frog Golson in the coming years. I believe Golson is BK's hand picked guy to run his offense. Golson will be the go to guy at some point is his ND career. Maybe hendrix will get in there before Golson, but Golson will get his shot. I dont see any incoming QB taking over before Golson gets his chance.

Now if we want to talk future, future QBs, my youngest son "Lord Cassius Ahmed" is 5.

BIO:
3 foot 8 inches
75-80 pounds
Throws 20 yard spirals with a nerf.
Loves to run the zone read, with him keeping it 99% of the time
Once beat my 12 year old in a foot race.

Kiffin was at his last peewee game, I think they are going to offer, BK better hurry.
