Pat, like I said, nobody is advocating becoming Oregon. And nobody thinks that adding a tricked-out uniform to the wardrobe is going to result in Notre Dame vaulting back to the very top of college football. But I do think that modernizing the Notre Dame brand can and will pay dividends with the types of athletes Notre Dame needs to be involved with in order to compete for championships. I think it is important that we don't lose touch with who we are, and that we protect what is truly important about the traditions so we don't lose our identity as we modernize. But in the end, if we wear uniforms that get kids attention and get them talking about us once a year, who is that hurting? Many of Notre Dame's traditions were the result of being innovative and cutting-edge at the time and not being married to antiquated ideas, so in a way it goes against tradition to simply refuse any and all changes.

The most important Notre Dame tradition is winning national championships and Heisman trophies. If wearing a slightly modernized uni helps uphold that tradition, even in the smallest of ways, I'm all for it. But this really isn't about just uniforms, its about a broader effort to modernize Notre Dame's brand to appeal to the next generation of Heisman winners and future NFL stars. The key is to do that tastefully and protect the most sacred and important traditions and ideals that are associated with Notre Dame football.

-Fair enough. My thoughts were simply based on the potential of some crazy looking unis(clovers on the helmet again). I'm not for that.

I agree that winning is what we need to get back too. So if new unis somehow, some cosmic way, help us win. I guess I'm out voted on this one.

Guess it's only a matter of time with these things.

Jersey changes dont bother me....this will always be Notre dame and we dont need to worry about Adidas taking away the history. If anything they will be in honor of past teams. As long as we win im OK with about anything

Don't like messing with the jersey's and unis...that is something that isn't necessary at all.

Love the recruiting aggressiveness and the pratice changes and I'm all for the night games.

Overall, very happy. And winning cures everything. Even I could bend on the uni changes if they're holding up a crystal football in a couple years....

Agree completely.

100% agreed! Never said that we needed crazy unis, nor that we needed to stray from the traditional unis more than once or twice a year. But the fact of the matter is this stuff is FUN and entertaining. I don't see how a couple times a year would be a bad thing. I do think the traditional unis should be worn most times.

Most of us aren't assuming anything. I just like the thought of changing things up every now and again, regardless of how extreme. Of course I will hold full support back until I see what they have in store, lol.

Here's the deal: We can rebrand the Notre Dame look and still maintain tradition. I don't understand why those two ideas can't coexist or why it is so hard for some people to understand that.

It's like anytime we bring up anything new that the Irish can build or create, there has to be a certain amount of people who fear the absolute worst. In this case, the news of ONE THROWBACK UNIFORM has caused some to already think we're turning into Oregon and we'll be wearing 40 different uniform combinations in the future.

Do you know why I support changes to the uniform? Because we've been doing it for decades!! Seriously, we are not Penn State. We haven't been wearing the same "tradition bound" uniform for years and years.

From about the 1930's (when the uniforms started resembling modern ones) to the Holtz era, we wore roughly SIX different uniforms. And since the mid 80's, if you take into account all of the big and small changes, we've worn almost a DOZEN different uniforms.

When you take all of these changes into account, we're nowhere near the Penn State's and Alabama's of the world in terms of tradition. Sure our gold helmets and pants push us close to that group, but from a uniform stand point we're not even close.

So again, I'm all for us changing things up once in a while, wearing a throwback here and there, making some changes to the regular uniforms, because we've been doing it for decades!

That doesn't mean I'm going to like any and all changes, I'll sure as heck critique something and want it gone if I think it's ugly, but I'd be pretty disappointed if we ran out of the tunnel every single week for the next 50 years in plain blue jerseys with white numbers, like some people think we've been doing forever.

I'm excited to see what the throwback uniform looks like.
