Just received a tweet that Jim Seymour passed away at the age of 64. No more details then that at this time.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Jim Seymour, a star receiver at Notre Dame in the 1960s who formed a potent passing combination with quarterback Terry Hanratty and helped the Fighting Irish win a national championship, has died. He was 64.
The school announced that Seymour died Tuesday night at Highland Park Hospital in Illinois.
Seymour graduated from Notre Dame in 1969. During his three-year varsity career, he made 138 catches for 2,113 yards and 16 touchdowns. When Notre Dame won the national title in 1966, Seymour caught 48 passes with eight touchdowns.
This sucks. "Mr. Cling" is one of those boyhood Irish heros/icons that are embedded in my brain. On another level, which some of the oldsters on this board can, I am sure, identify with, there is something scary about reaching the age where so many people who were living parts of your consciousness, be it family and friends, classmates, or people who you just knew of an idolized, begin to pass away with more and more frequency. Tends to make one think more and more of one's own mortality.
