What sucks for ND is that when you suspend a kid for games at the beginning of the season they are a lot more competitive games than just about every other team in CFB who play 3 or 4 "tune up" games before starting their conference schedule.

There is a bigger picture then football here. Yes i want to win but at what cost? He could have very easily killed someone or his self. And this is his second time so he didn't learn anything from the first time. I hope kelly had to go pick him up and had a long talk with him. This is going to hurt him in the long run what NFL team wants a player that already has 2 Dui's. So why draft a player that has already to serious run ins with the law. I just lost one of my best friends to a drunk driving incident and it sucks. It has been almost a month and it doesn't get any better. Not to make this a personal sob story but he needs to punished so he remembers it.

Forgive me for potentially seeing the worst case scenario here, but how does Floyd have a car? This isn't a Jimmy Clausen type family, Floyd was on scholarship at Cretin-Durham and he has a ton of siblings. Seems really unlikely that this was a family car. The whole Michigan basketball fiasco got started over a car accident remember. Let's just hope the incident is limited to him being an idiot, if he's an idiot driving an agent or a booster's car, then it stops being Michael Floyd's problem and becomes Notre Dame football's problem.
The article doesn't say what type of car it is. I mean if it's a hoopty this is a non issue. I just don't see how your post is relevant to this situation. Kid could be driving a broken down car or something.

His fate is in the hands of the University, not the football coach. He should be dismissed, if this is his second offense (of DUI).
If things haven't changed since my days, he will be gone. Drunk drivers kill a lot of people. If this is really his second offense, for Floyd's own good he should be dismissed. Perhaps then he will realize that this offense is serious. He should also serve jail time. In Sweden, the offender gets jail time for the first offense and their death rate is among the lowest in the world for drunk drivers.
As for the Ohio State children, they reportedly stole Ohio State property ( jerseys, a criminal offense) and sold them along with their real property (their rings etc, a NCAA offense).
I have worked in the emergency room trying to save the lives of these victims and pronouncing them dead. I have no respect for those who drive while drunk.

This is only his first DUI, not that it makes it any better. The first time he was cited for underage drinking and fighting. He needs to learn how to handle his booze, or stop drinking.

I'm thinking either an in-season suspension (a couple of games) or keep him out of spring ball.

Maybe both.

This is pretty bad news and a black eye on our university. Underage drinking is one thing, but this is completely different and much worse. Terrible decision that will cost him and his team. Draft stock is probably affected as well for next year. Ridiculously upsetting news.

i guess this means ND is truly a top tier program now. we have the DUI's, alleged sexual assault and now a few robberies should just about seal the deal. i smell national championship!

Yeah, this pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter.

^This, but you forgot we had drug charge last year, all we need is a player to send a death threat...lol

If you think this will only cost him spring ball or an opening game, I think you are a glass is half full or overflowing type. This is serious stuff and should be taken as such. I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't see the field again at ND. I'm just happy nobody got injured or worse. Football falls way down on the list when you compare it to someone's life.

Probably did it more times then I would like to admit, then a close friend of mine died driving drunk and my outlook on the whole issue changed. I won't even drink one beer and get behind the wheel anymore.

Sorry if I sound like I'm trivializing DUI's. I guess in my eyes I see it as sort of a given that any drunk driver could have killed somebody. But I can't imagine what you are going through. Sorry for your loss man.

This isn't Floyd's 2nd DUI. He was in the car with somebody else who got one over a year ago and Floyd had been involved in a fight that night but he wasn't driving. Luckily the whole DUI process is really grueling so hopefully Floyd learns his lesson and becomes a better person for it.

This may affect his draft status but not significantly. I feel more sorry for ND players who won't be going to the NFL that were hoping to make a BCS run this coming season and now that might be in jeopardy because of Floyd's bad judgment.

The problem is drunk driving is simple to do. Pretty much nobody admits they are too drunk or buzzed to drive. Or you get drunk in a way where it hits you later. You can't go out drinking without a plan to have someone be the DD. I work restaurants and see it all the time. Your ability to self-regulate goes out the window. I don't look at Floyd as some kind of low-life, but driving drunk is serious stuff. It's a lapse in judgement, but one serious enough for serious punishment. How many people with DUI's get multiple ones? A lot. That says something.

Depending on the circumstances of the arrest the charge may change. If he was barely over the legal limit I have heard several cases where the DUI is changed to a reckless driving plea. Also if he was still on probation for his underage citation will hurt his chances. Anyways not that any of that changes he made a bad decision. None of us are perfect lets hope this helps him learn and grow as a person whatever the punishment may be.

When i was cited for underage drinking the probation was only 12 months. Going by that he should have been off probation in January.

You have got to be ****ing kidding me, this kid should be a leader and keep this from happening. I mean maybe he has a legit drinking problem but this not only hurts the university image but also his draft stock for next year. Sad situation all around

Please do not add to the echo chamber.

Our opponents are hoping that we take care of Floyd so that they don't have too.

Last season, Pitt had 22 players on its roster that had previously been arrested.

Ole Miss had 18.

'Bama had 5.

Let's chill out.....

Here are some things I can't jump behind right now:

"Notre Dame's image is forever tarnished!"

"Floyd has major issues that he needs to deal with."

"His NFL stock has taken a big hit."

I think it's safe to say at this point, that none of those above statements are true. One or more may turn out to be true, but history says likely not.

I'm just one of those Subway Alums who is bothered by the JUDGEY, JUDGEY, JUDGEY...CLASSY, CLASSY, CLASSY pitchfork crowd that encircle someone whenever something like this happens.

I'm not belittling a DUI arrest, but I hardly thinks it's time to start etching Floyd's life character in stone, or preparing to wash a giant stain from the school's image.

I think missing spring ball and 1 game is fair punishment, and I wouldn't be shocked if it's more or God forbid a whole season. But I think anything more than 1 game (maybe two) is really completely unnecessary.

Maybe it's because I didn't attend the university, but I don't feel the need to throw Floyd's whole season away to satiate some desire to prove to the world how excellent the morals are at Notre Dame.

We have more than 5 now I think: Floyd, Ragone and everyone who was at that house party in the summer.

Not that its right, but im sure most of us have....my only thing is i did it before i was 21 and lacked the maturity to make the right decision. I can honestly say me and most of my buddies havent stepped behind the wheel intoxicated after we turned 21. Floyd obviously needs someone in his ear telling him to do the right things which in my opinion is dangerous

Hopefully its something along the lines of he is suspended for the 1st game, or for the rest of this semester.

I know in basketball, Kyle McAlarney a couple years ago got pulled over and cops found weed in his car and he was immediately done for the rest of the year (the arrest happened really early in the season). I know its different sport/crime, but its the only comparable one I can think of off the top of my head.

Sucks how much alcohol has affected ND football in the past 2 years or less. Even on a more tragic scale going back to Matt James last spring when he died during Senior Week.
