He's going to have to check out other schools at some point to figure out which school is best for him. ND has a lot to offer. Have faith.

If i was a ND lean i'd probably go to another JR day to, just because ND is the team to beat. maybe he knows alot more about ND than Ohio State. Wishful thinking I guess

That is wishful thinking, b/c he's definitely not a ND lean. He actually grew up a Penn State fan, and seems to really like that school. His dad, however, is a big ND fan. Says distance won't be a factor for him, and that he's still wide open...

Is there any news about this guy visiting ND? From everything I'm reading, he's the best d-lineman in the Midwest. Any news?

In other words, "childhood favorite" + teams who played in a bcs bowl in the past 2 years...I think we know what we have to do this season...

Also, a little surprised here

Who else we got on the board at the position?

Maybe he sees that we do actually have depth at NT. Nix has 4 years left and I think Cwynar has 3 more years. I really hope that we can get him because he is an absolute stud, but I can understand if he chooses another school. Kelly ought to sick Bob "The Closer" Diaco on him.

Cwyner has 2 years of eligibility left and after this season would obviously be one year.

Sheldon Day, Courtnye Wynn, Jarron Jones, Eddie Goldman...and I wouldn't count us out of this particular race yet either.

thanks for the info...I wouldn't count us out either, but I was curious about our other options

it would be great to land an elite talent at this position.

I thought I heard that NT was a big concern this year...that the staff is really looking to land an elite player at the position.

Say Nix turns into a stud and stays for only 3 years and leaves for draft bypassing his 4th year. So he has 3 years. If an elite NT signs this year then he will practically sit 2 years. Say one year redshirt (like Nix) and sit out one year...possibly getting some reps in for rest of Nix.

So if i'm correct at what I said then thinking as an elite NT...why would I consider this?
Wouldn't next year be more of a campaign year to land a NT? Or should it really be every year?

Side note: I also kind of upset how Schutt is from Illinois and he doesn't have ND in his top 5...just surprising to me...we should have Indiana/Illinois on lockdown like the OSU's/Floridas/Texas/USC practically lock down their state.

Okay. That does change thing up a bit. Who else do we have at NT? Didn't Hafis Williams switch to DE? If Cwynar and Nix are the only true NT that we have, then we had better get a flat out stud either this year or next year!

Hafis can also play NT, but he is in the same class as Cywner. Brandon Newman also is in the same class as the other two, but he hasn't seen the field as of yet. So all three of the guys have 2 years and prob in the case of Newman one year left. Only other NT is Tyler Stockton, who is small for an NT and is more of a 4-3 DT. Stockton has three years left. Of course you never know and Tuitt could bulk up and play NT.

There is also a notion from some (Coach D on ISD for one) that Kona could bulk up and move inside as well.

What's the word on Newman...I remember he had a great AAA Game and practice thet week, which got him his 4th star.

That's the problem, we haven't heard much since. He's one of the people I'd love to see step up this spring, but my hopes aren't high. To me I liken him to the defense's version of Deion Walker - all the talent to be a real good player, but for one reason or another, it just has not happened. Filer really needs to step up, he could really dominate the Dog position, he is perfect for it. You were right about Stockton, he is probably ultimately too small to play the nose. He would have to be a DE in the 3-4, or one of the inside tackles when we switch to 4-3 alignments. I think Heggie is big and athletic enough to be a rotational player, but I just don't see him being a real answer. He can be a great player for the team, however, by contributing and excelling on special teams, and by pushing the more talented players during practice.

Im suprised at this. I thought we were sitting well with Schutt. It's still very early but to not be in his top 5 is not a good sign. Valentine and O'Brien are two other prospects that have been spoken highly of in this class. I'm pretty sure we will be on the outside looking in for Goldman. I say he ends up at Alabama.

It's still early and ND can make a move but some guys just don't want to come to ND. Look at Wayne Lyons last year, seemed like a perfect fit but he just wasn't feeling the Irish.

i really feel that we're in for a hell of a year this coming season, and about 5 or 6 games in a lot of these recruits are going to come piling in.

Homervision I know, but the good athletes want to see us champs again. Nothing less.

I think you'll see us get into his top 5 after OSU falls out of it. I'm sure the NCAA will hammer them and sweatervest may end up resigning, who knows. Read somewhere he was planning on packing it in in 2014 anyways. That might be the best way to leave the school and program looking as best it can.
