Local South Bend High School Product. He is listed as a RB on Scout and an OLB on Rivals. Maybe some locals can shed some light on him.

From the local FOX station:

Both potential recruits

South Bend Washington Juniors Gehrig Dieter and David Perkins have been named by Scout.com as Top 100 Midwest players for the class of 2012. Head Coach Antwon Jones made a presentation Wednesday after practice to the leaders of his Panthers. Dieter is a wide receiver while Perkins is a defensive end. The players were selected from 9 states and only 10 were chosen from Indiana. Four of those listed were from Indianapolis powerhouse Warren Central.

Scout.com: Touted 2012 Prospect Changes Schools

David Perkins made a lot of noise this summer on the camp circuit. A physical 6'2, 209-lb receiver, he is poised to become a top recruit, but schools wanting to see him will have to find him at a different school.

David Perkins was a standout for Kalamazoo Central (Mich.) last year, excelling at both wide receiver and linebacker.

At 6'2, and a chiseled 209-lbs, he impressed schools at several camp stops this summer, including Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Illinois.

Those schools will have a new place to come find him this fall, as a family move has him at a different high school.

"I'm moving to South Bend," he said, "we just bought the house. I'll be playing for Washington High School."

Washington already has a couple of standouts at wide receiver, Darius Hardin and Gehrig Dieter, but Perkins' family has talked to the coaching staff and were assured they would find a spot for him.

"They said either slot or wideout or running back, and on defense, outside linebacker for sure."

Kid has great measureables... a lot of locals have used terms like "freak athlete" to describe him. Hopefully he ends up playing in our secondary.

In our secondary?? I hope not, he'd prolly be catchin' balls against us then. I think ND's looking at him at WR.

Really enjoyed his visit.

Elston will be visiting him at school this week

He said ND is in his top 5, with or without an offer.

PS. This guy is a beast.

Great size to play RB...any film??

if the staff doesn't like our position with our other RB recruits he might get an offer.

Beast is correct. I would much rather have him as a WR though. Seems to me most of his runs get dragged an extra 5-7 yds because of incredible leg strength. Will he be able to do the same in college against the likes of Manti, KLM, Gray, etc?

Still .... I would love to have him on the team with that drive no doubt!

we need a bruiser type back to compliment what we have, especially with Cam Roberson's status up in the air even though I think he'll be healthy.

plus he would fit very well with his ability to catch the ball.

With those measurables and 4.43 speed, I'd love to have him at Strong Safety.

If he's at ND, he won't need to. He will however be able to do that against the scUM DLine and Backers, the Condoms DLine and Backers, Fredo's DLine and Backers. You get the idea. Runs with a purpose, would be fun to see in 3 man spring drill behind Hegarty while battling against Nix. Ouch.

I was questioning 4.43 as well, but he does have the ability to pull away. He'd have to be an OLB if he were on defense the way it looks...i prefer him at RB

Notre Dame in a good place with local athlete David Perkins

Wow his haircut game is bringing it back. Is that a good thing? Who knows. I think the Irish are slow-playing Perkins so they don't scare off an "elite" RB. I believe he will ultimately get an offer once we secure another RB, though.

that's a solid thought...secure the one lightning stud and then bring the thunder.

From ESPN's Tom Luginbull, at the Ohio State camp:

ATH David Perkins may be most explosive front seven player here, but needs to be at OLB, not DE. Versatile kid.

Does he 4.43 speed or doesn't he? If he does, he needs an offer, no reason to let good talent get away from our backyard.

Actually played OLB and moved to DE on passing downs because he was unblockable and was a liability in pass coverage. Can't really see where he would fit in our defensive scheme and offensively is a even bigger question mark. Great player though and should dominate the NIC as well as the state this year. I can see him traveling down south or the Pac-10

If you don't know something like this is absolutely true, please do not say anything. That is just chickens**t internet BS.

Ok, how about "I know for a fact that there were some character concerns". Better?

I always appreciate your insider info. Thanks!

I'm thinking that Kelly and Company would have offered him already if they really wanted him.

That is definitely an unsubstantiated rumor! I personally coached the kid last year and he is a good kid. If anything there may have been concerns about his grades at least with ND's measuring stick.
