Since we're in the slow period, here's a question I've been meaning to ask for a while:

Besides any event that happens on game day at ND (because we know those are obviously the best!), what are your favorite College Football traditions?

Ohio State - Dotting the I
Tennessee - Running through the T
Virginia Tech - Enter Sandman
Wisconsin - Jump Around
Middlebury College - Picking up Butch
Colorado - Ralphie running onto the field
USC - that tin man riding the white horse
Miami (80's/90's) - running through the smoke

Others??? Discuss...

Good one. I like it when the fans at UGA home games yell "Sic em Woof Woof Woof" after kickoffs too.

Oh that is yelled at all games. The full thing is Go Dawgs! Sic 'em! woof woof woof woof. Dawgs is yelled when the ball is kicked. Sanford Stadium is such an awesome place to watch a football game. The atmosphere is absolutely incredible.

I like it when Richt kicks his starting RB off the team to accomodate his stud freshman...

I forgot about those two, both quite good as well.

Another one that would get some love but doesn't really do a lot for me is Clemson's touching the rock (Howard's). Now, "Running down the hill" is pretty cool. Pretty sure I'd fall and/or trip someone.

Have to agree. the best game I have ever been to is A&M vs Mizzou when Brad Smith was a JR. Everything from start to finish with the march, 12th man routine before game and all the chants. Great! Not to mention I can't say I hate them since they are no threat to us. I like o see them win because they are like the bad step sister in a group of foster kids. Don't belong at all but love when they make a presence.

Not sure how many of you have had the chance to go to a Army-Navy Game, but the march-ons are incredible. All traditions surrounding that game is incredible. I like when the exchange of the cadets for the midshippmen. THe parachutting of servicemen into the stadium is awesome to watch. And the fly=overs are usually more than your over average flyover. You get 2- 1 for Army and one for Navy.

That game can set the tone for the rest of that year for all young cadets/midshippmen. When either side wins, the winning service will usually lift alot of the duties that relate to being low man on the totem poll. Its a pretty big deal.

Rant: Tradition I hate---

Living about a mile and half from U of Penn in Philly, I have adopted them as my Ivy League school.

It bugs the sh!t out of me that Penn wins the Ivy League, goes 9-1 only losing to Nova 22-10 and finishing 14th in FCS rankings, yet the Ivy League does not allow its teams to play in the FCS playoffs. Dude, its not 1949 anymore.

The presidents are simply perpetuating a pattern of inequity and irrationality. They’re not upholding tradition. They’re being stubborn.

I've always thought dotting the I was stupid personally. It just seems anti-climactic. Not that all traditions aren't though. Just never got into that one.

I def think running down that hill and rubbing that statue is pretty cool.

My favorite tradition recently has been seeing teams get nailed for cheating. This tradition needs to continue.

I remember ESPN broadcasting a night game a few years ago where they had really good coverage of the Clemson pregame ritual and it looked pretty cool. That's what I thought of when I read the original post.

I like my time tested tradition of consuming beer during and after ND football games.

The Utes have the third down stomp that is pretty cool.

At the old Stanford stadium, the locker rooms were across a quad from the stadium, so the players had to suit up and then walk quite a ways over to the field. Very cool to see the entire team walking across campus in full gear. Their cleats made it sound really cool.

Saw ND play there a number of years ago and I stood just a few feet from Bill Walsh leading the Cardinal out and then Lou brought the Irish to the stadium. Two legends leading their players to the stadium was very cool.

The best part about dotting the I in Cbus is that they just don't let anybody do it, you gotta be pretty special

Notables:
Bob Hope
Woody Hayes
Buster Douglass
Jack Nicklaus
John Glenn

Tremendous honor to be in the company of those who've dotted the I.

I also thought it was pretty cool when the Seminole ran on the 50 and slammed down the fiery arrow...love em or hate em that's pretty wild.

Not really football traditions, but two things that I HATE:
1)"Boiler Up!" (Most idiotic cheer ever created in the history of man)
2)USC "V" for victory.

Penn State arriving in a blue school bus is the only thing IMO close to Notre Dame and the locker room steps. Touch a rock, pet a dog, do the chop, run out threw steam or ballons or whatever, none of it means a thing to me. The simple gesture of play like a champion is all I care about.

That's a real good one that totally slipped my mind when I posted initially! Army Navy is a tradition that I would love to be able to see someday.
