Rutgers-Notre Dame Preview - Feb. 5, 2011 - NCAA Division I Mens Basketball - CBSSports.com

In his team's fourth straight win, Ben Hansbrough scored 24 points while making 7 of 12 shots. He has averaged 23.7 points on 61.0 percent shooting over the past three games.
...
The chance to help Brey match his best start in 11 seasons at the school might have Notre Dame equally enthused. The Irish won 19 of 23 to open 2002-03.

Returning home could have the same effect, as Notre Dame is 13-0 there.
...

The Scarlet Knights (12-10, 3-7) enter this matchup as one of the Big East's worst scoring teams (66.4 ppg). They've averaged 58.0 points during a season high-tying three consecutive defeats but have been competitive in the last two of those games, losing by a combined five points.

After falling 65-62 to Pitt on Jan. 29, the Scarlet Knights gave up a layup with four seconds left in Wednesday night's 58-56 loss at St. John's.

Sagarin has ND's schedule as 10th toughest.

ND is 5-2 against Sagarin Top 25 teams. BYU is the only other team to have 5 wins against the Top 25.

ND is 9-4 versus Top 50 teams. No other team has more than 7 wins against Sagarin's Top 50.

ND is ranked higher than all the teams they lost to:

#11 SYR
# 12 UK
#30 Marquette (3 wins over Top 25 Teams)
#37 St John's (4 wins over Top 25 Teams)

He has ND ranked #10 with a Rating of 88.83

I can't believe we're shooting so bad from the line. This game shouldn't be close.

Carleton Scott seems to have one ridiculous play a game. That was sick.

Scary game, but sole possession of 2nd place in the Big East is pretty sick.

The game wasn't on TV here so I couldn't see it live...did Rutgers just ugly the game up and slow things down with foul after foul? I think I saw 18 second half fouls!

Basically, ND got up early and then they switched to a zone which tightened it up heading into the second half. In the second half they just played super aggressive and fouled a lot because of that style. The aggression definitely affected what we wanted to do offensively. I don't think ND ever trailed, and had an 11 point lead with 5 to play, but it never felt safe because of the press and all of the fouling. Just a lot of chaos and mini-runs by Rutgers. Was a 3 point game with ~30 second to go before Ben drew a foul and effectively iced the game.

Our big issue is that Atkins is young and there is no one besides him and Ben who can really handle the ball well or beat their man off the dribble. This is going to hurt us come tournament time if we get matched up against aggressive teams with the short rest between games. You can't expect Ben to play ~40 minutes a game and keep his legs.

Thanks!

Hopefully, ND can match up a little better in the tournament this year with some of those more athletic & quick teams they always seem to draw in the first round (i.e. Wintrop & ODU).
