Just read that Bennett Okotcha is now going to sign with OU. I liked his potential, but you can't say the Irish have gotten more bad than good breaks so far this recruiting season, so I won't whine too much.

My question is: Are there any marginal DB targets left on ND's board that are worthy of taking that scholarship?

I did a sweep and there is not another DB (that is un-committed) that has a offer from ND. Again it depends on what web site you are looking at. May be to late in the game to poach...OU screwed us. However, revenge is a dish be served cold (i kid- relax).

Well, now that the swirlings of Bennett Jackson moving to CB, we could possibly wait until 2012 to pick up some guys from that loaded class.

Yeah it is frustrating to lose a guy this late in the game, especially at a position that has been notoriously thin the last few seasons. I didn't think there was anyone left on the board at DB. Barring another Tuitt flip (unlikely), this class still looks amazing on paper, and yes, hopefully the trench warriors coming in this year will be ready to contribute in 2012 to serve up said dish of revenge in Norman.

BJ certainly has the speed to keep up with receivers, but is he physical enough to stick the bigger ones? I see him more as a coverage corner, which of course is aok if there is a safety that can lay the wood behind him

I saw him lay at least two monster hits on special teams. I think he'll be physical, not afraid of contact at all.

EXCELLENT. All I remember of him this season was kick returns, and know he was a tiny-framed guy coming out of HS. I'm sure he's bulked up this year.

Running down the field, at full speed, with a 65 yard headstart, and laying a hit on someone is a lot different than playing D and making tackles. Sheesh. Come on guys.

No plan B. Other than Niklas there is no one left on the board. Class is done

i get your point, but he still makes open field tackles and sometimes they are made from a static position. so yeah, i think it'll carry over to him converting to a db.

Let's see ...

running down the field

at full speed

laying a hit on someone

making tackles

Yeah that's different from the "D" I recall from USA Today High School All-American CB Clifford Jefferson during most of his time at ND. So much for HS credentials.

sheesh, come on Pat, read the thread and posts in context. The Admiral made a simple comment, "I think he'll be physical, not afraid of contact at all." , based on the only play WE have to guage Jackson's capabilities. Lack of physcial play by the CBs has been a lament of ND fans for most of the past 15 years. Be it the DC's choice or the players inability.

Although none of us have ever seen Jackson defend a pass in Div 1, he played the position in HS just like Okotcha did. Jackson's been through a season of Div 1 play, has experienced the speed of Div 1 play has already experienced Longo's conditioning and accepted the coaches decision to change positions. Okotcha hasn't been to his prom yet.

How well Jackson reads and reacts against Div 1 competition will be seen this Spring when he goes head to head with Div 1's best WR. He can't get any better preparation than Floyd.
