Whoa! Thats seems odd. He'd go to FL just to be a Running Backs coach?
I doubt it.

Hearing #ND coach Tony Alford could be the new RB coach at #UF after signing day.

This is the guy that has been a "father figure" to Aaron Lynch, no? Would be the wtf move of the year, IMHO.

That's strange. Florida has a RB coach who is an excellent recruiter and a holdover from the meyer staff. Sooo if Alford's name is being mentioned it means that guy (Drayton, Draughton, something) is going elsewhere.

I hope BK read my post a month ago requesting an immediate pay raise for Alford. I'd hate to lose him

and wasn't there a quote from Kelly to the effect that if a coach interviews for a lateral job "he better get it"

I asked the dude that posted it where he got it from and if it was reliable and he said

from another BCS coach that once played at ND and has connections there.

I stand corrected. Florida RB coach Stan Drayton took the same job at Ohio State recently. ****...

This came up on a Florida board weeks ago. But it was completely unsubstantiated. Something to the effect of "who can we get to be our new RB coach?" And then everyone started to run with it like it was an actual source. It expanded to more boards. It hopped over to DomerDomain. All because Alford worked for Weis as a RB coach.

Could Alford go to Florida? Maybe... he is a WR coach here and had been a RB coach in the past so maybe he has a preference that way. Maybe he also likes Weis a lot. Maybe they would offer him more money. Maybe he has a preference towards warm weather. But as someone who has been tracking this basically from its inception.... this is a case of rumors begetting rumors and all of a sudden people put stock in something that had no base to begin with.

Even if there is any truth to this, I think BK will try to do whatever it takes to keep him. Only time will tell. There is also a large part of me, watching the way this has evolved, that thinks this is now an intentional ploy against ND leading up to signing day. What better to try to flip recruits at the last moment than to rumor the main recruiter of a school is headed somewhere else right after NSD? "Don't trust Tony... he's leaving in five days!!!"

Give me a ****ing break.

Isnt Alford a Weiss guy? The one thing that scares me the most is that with ND's success, our coaching staff is going to see a high turnover rate. Didnt Weiss hire Alford at ND.

As long as we keep Kelly and keep winning, I could really care less to be honest. He's the one we need to hold on to.

His brother coaches here at Utah, and he is also starting to become a recruiting force.

This was tweeted by NDatRivals

Interesting that somebody who covers FSU would know about Tony Alford's interest in leaving ND for Florida. #PssstLynchAlreadyEnrolled!

Could be. I was just thinking of any kind of coach at a BCS school, but that makes sense

I was thinking of HC's so Skip came to mind. But Young or even Weis is a good bet if true.

I personally don't get it unless, like Lax said he just wants to coach RB's again. It's a lateral move at best. Besides, if you have aspirations of being a HC someday who is better to learn from, a guy who has been doing it for 20 years at various levels or an inexperienced head coach and your failed former employer? Just doesn't make sense.

As far as playing games in recruiting, besides Lynch, who else did Alford recruit that UF would want? If this came out during the Lynch saga I get it. But right now seems a little weak.

Also, if Alford has a father like role in Aaron Lynch's life, I highly doubt that he'd work so hard to have him commit then bounce for another position, and a non-promotional position at that. I'd like to think that our coaches are high character guys that are building to win here. Hopefully, I'm right.
