In all seriousness though, I do wonder what it means that Kelly wanted this guy - either he's as phenomenal as advertised, or Kelly has internal concerns...

Well, I am in the minority here, but I hoped that we would get him. His snap times are as good or better than the guys in the NFL. I know that he is on the small side and that we already have a snapper. However, if his times are consistantly better, then it would be an upgrade in special teams. As far as the arguement, "we already have a snapper", we have DE's on scholly but we went after and got some upgrades. Also, very rarely do you see the long snapper being engaged by a DL. The DL are in a gap to avoid hitting the longsnapper while his head is down and by the time they can hit him, they are engaged already. Usually the LS will be free until second level, if not until he reaches the return man. Therefore, the arguement of 185 against 300+ is something that would have been the exception, not the rule.

He is not coming and all of this is for nothing, but I just wanted to say my piece about it. It's how I feel and I approve this message! Good luck Bryce.

yeah, i agree...i know this doesnt make headline news, but these guys can be hard to find...oh well, its still a great class and i wish him well...now lets get niklas and get to work

You have a very valid argument, I will give you that. But I just wanted to respond for the fun of it. It's true the coaching staff went after many DE recruits in this class as upgrades, or to add depth. But to compare the two is hard, because a long snapper may see the field maybe 5 or so times a game, depends on how much a team punts. That in most cases is the only time he will see the field since a short snapper is normally someone different. Where as a DE will see anywhere from 30 or more plays, so depth is more an issue for that position to get a better rotation. So they can get a breather every once in awhile.

A long snapper is very essential, I agree, but anyone can be taught the position to come in for 5 plays or so. From what I have seen most of the time the long snapper will be a walk-on. Not in all cases but that is what I have seen. I know ND's long snapper is a scholarship player, but it's not a recruiters main focus, most of the time.

He would have been a nice add and is a heck of a talent for what he does, but I don't think he will be someone who the coaching staff will be kicking themselves about in the future for missing out on.

Buckeyes got some number issues as well...waiting on a couple stud linebackers and an olineman from glenville it'll be interesting how they dwindle their way to 85.

I wanted to see us sign him, too....because Kelly saw him as a major asset--- provable by the way he pursued him so late and with precious few scholarships left. I believe that it IS true that a superior snapper avoids you losing games due to catastrophic bad snaps and slow-developing blocked punts. There is some wiggle room for imperfection in almost any phase of football, but the narrowest might be the snappers and kickers. Elite ones are gold. As to everyone's stated objections: OK, but Coach disagreed with all of you.

The Buckeyes can only sign 3 over the 85 limit and have to send in a letter on how they got back to 85. Big Ten policy.

SEC on the other hand has signed an average of 103 players over the last 4 years.

Big Ten, 86. At least the Big Ten does something right!

Guys... even it Cowert does go bye-bye for some reason...

Braxton Cave lost a year of eligability long and short snapping. We have two snappers on the roster... and Cave did quite a damn good job when he was snapping.
