I know ND screams tradition, that is why we love it. But ND in its history is also innovative, Knute Rockne and Gus Durais using the forward pass, Rockne putting players in motion, etc. come on a jumbo tron was innovative years ago, just because we didn't do it first doesn't mean we shouldn't add one. Or field turf for that matter. I look at it this way. We can debate tradition, and other schools can claim being the first, but nobody plays for OUR LADY. We do! That is special.

Interesting. To the people who have visited and went to ND. In your opinion, could the surrounding facilities, hotels, restaurants, and bars of South Bend support say another fifteen thousand fans?

There was an article I think in the South Bend Tribune a couple of years ago when the latest round of stadium expansions took place. The stadium can be expanded if the Administration choses to. Parking is an issue but could be accommodated through a combination of approaches. Traffic is an issue. But the biggest problem is hotels and restaurants. The article cited various studies, planning agencies, and licensing data. The people that own existing faciilites aren't going to expand to handle 20K people for 6 or 7 dates or weekends. What do they do with the facilities the rest of the year? Same point pertains to new facilities.

Two other factors influence future expansion, Student Body Size and Large National fan base (alumni and subway).

ND has a small student body. Check the number of students at UM, OSU, etc. Far easier to fill a 100K stadium with a 40K student body that already have rooms and eating facilities.

ND's fan base is national. Fans that attend games at most colleges generally live within the state and drive to games. They don't need a lot of hotel rooms. They may or may not need visit a resaurant but they don't need them for the full weekend. ND has a higher percentage of fans that travel far distances, CA, TX, FL, MA. That's also one of the reason ND's fan base travels well to away games, neutral sites, and bowl games. They're accustomed to it for home games.

I enjoy AND share in it!
The Kool-Aid is tasting real good right now!

Turf is fine as long as we keep the field markings the same...
I don't like the jumbotron though.

I would love to have more people and it definitely needs to get louder (which it was at times this year), but I don't like blocking TD Jesus and the Dome even more. I think that a horseshoe shape would be a cool thing. Jesus is pissed because He can't see the players anymore. IF the field turf gets put it in I REALLY hope that how the field looks doesn't change.

Can we write "IRISH" or something of the like in those yellow flowers on the sidelines?

This could work...
Maybe just have "Notre Dame" written instead...I'd like that even more so than "Irish"

I'm ok with new turf if they go that way. What I really would like to see is building Rockne Stadium bigger than any other stadium if the logistics around the place can handle it. Why not Notre Dame seating 120,000 people. One thing for sure there would still be sellouts. This stadium was built in such a way that adding on is not hard. Probably wont happen as they dont need the $$$$.

Ya my bad I forgot about that so lets not close that end. He's gotta see his team. So we'll stop at 115,000

Or if he does get blocked out from his view, Touchdown Jesus could be the midfield logo.
Definitely messing around! sorry

What is all this talk of adding on to ND stadium again? Did i miss something?

Just an exercise in banter, speculation and wishful thinking. While I agree that a 100,000+ stadium could be filled, by and large, for each of the six or seven weekends a year, I'm not convinced that it's a good idea.

The problem with adding on to ND stadium is that right now there isn't a bad seat in the house. You keep adding and adding the seats get worse and worse. Eventually you end up with another deck that you cant see anything from. Plus can touchdown Jesus see the field anymore? I thought the last expansion blocked the view.

I would think leaving the Touchdown Jesus facing side open and adding a 2nd deck all the way around would make ND stadium look too similar to O$U's stadium. I may get struck down for typing this but I do like what the skunk bears did to the Big House.

how tall is the touchdown jesus/ stadium? i'd like to keep it a little above the stadium if it's already blocked add 26 rows around 20,000. i think with the added height you could still see everything while in the stadium.. 13 rows would be 90,000 that would be nice..
