'11 OH DE Chase Hounshell (Signed Notre Dame LOI)

I am no expert on the following topic, so take this with full crap-detectors up and operating. Chase's sister IS a fine basketball player, playing for a Catholic powerhouse in the Cleveland area, and probably the star of a loaded team.

She's 6'1" and a 20+ point scorer and good rebounder. But I do not believe that a Hounshell "family deal" is likely in any sense of the word. Coach Muffet has only four scholarships to give and already has three commitments.

Colette Hounshell, despite her excellent play, is not on the ESPN rating service for 2011 girls hoops [several thousand listings]. This may be because Colette had an ACL last year which cost her the entire junior year, and people like ESPN haven't awakened to her resurgence, but I wouldn't think that Muffet would be looking that way with her last offer.

So, if we're going to get Chase, we'll have to do it [probably] on the basis of his own feelings about ND alone. By the way, I've also noticed that Florida was going after him as an OT, and he was having doubts about that side of the ball, whereas we're apparently looking at him on defense. End of my latest BS.

I updated his Scout ranking, down 2 places, and his ESPN ranking, down 8 places. I don't know how "old" they were. Rivals is supposed to be updating their rankings next week.

Interesting that he sees himself as too small for OLine (OMM). ESPN's evalution notes he plays both sides of the ball but will likely play DE in college OR grow into a DT.

The irony is that Florida probably has two 5 star DE's on the roster already.........and will get two more next year......I am sure this kid is all twisted, I hope he gets some clarity and makes the decision that is best for him.

With the way he handled it earlier in the process I was very against him coming to ND, but I'll never complain about stealing away a recruit from the Gators.

Could someone please breakdown which of our DE recruits are actually LB's and which are staying at DE?

I know we run a hybrid style but I'm also clearly not as knowledgeable about it as some of you.

I would agree it is hard to say it is the best in the country, but when it comes to the defensive side. It is up there with one of the best in the country if not the best.

Although I have seen Hounsell has the potential to play either side, so I am not sure where he will end up.
