Michael Floyd planning on staying for senior year?

I'm a big believer in having rookie NFL QB's sit a year or, ideally, two. Clausen got thrown into the fire behind a line that could not block, and a team who's wheels were coming off.

Now, all of this could affect his future. He could waste away after being traded, or he could have a new coach come in who runs a pro-style offense, and builds the team correctly.

It's a shame. He should have sat a year or two and caught up to the speed of the NFL.

Here in Dickson (Nashville) the Titans are dealing with controversy with Vince Young. Another QB that came out as a Junior and all said he was a man among boys at Texas - this was in football mind only, not a man in how to act towards teammates, coaches and public. This is his fifth year as an NFL player and he acts as if he is 16..

I know exactly what you mean....

Clausen was put in a terrible situation, Carolina was awful. Jimmy probably felt like he was a freshman again. Hope he gets a legit shot somewhere.

I believe some don't recognize this and other factors that are signs how a QB is going to do... the system and the tools - any QB regardless if they are first, second or even ten year veterans.

OK so over on Rivals message board apparently there is a good chance that MF will be back next season. He got his results back from the NFL advisory board and they project him as a 3rd rounder.

That's what they said about Clausen, his career may now be effectively over if the Panthers draft luck. Tate has done nothing to show he has a big future in the NFL.

If they want to get drafted and be able to say they made the NFL and be sure to make some money, go this year. If they want to be first round picks and have teams plan their offense around them and potentially make enough money to ensure the financial well being of their families for generations, come back for another year. It's as simple as that.
I don't agree with this at all. Had you said Brady Quinn I might be inclined to agree.

The wide reciever class is really good this year I can see 3rd round if I take off homer glasses.

Assuming this is true, and I find it very hard to believe that it is, I am both saddened for Michael and elated for ND.

I was listening to espn last night and they were saying that Jimmy might not have anything to worry about because if the league didn't put in a Rookie pay grade in to limit how much money they could make right out of college that they don't think the panthers owner would spend 50 or 60 million on Luck.

I hope that was a misquote. I hope that they project him as a 4th-5th rounder. Sorry for being a selfish Irish fan, but I would love to have him wearing the blue and gold again next year.

I've maintained that Kyle would go, and Floyd stay. I still think Floyd will stay. His stock will improve next season, I believe, based on all I have read about BK teams making HUGE jumps in production year 2. Even with the possible rookie salary cap, he would probably make more money going as a 1st rounder being capped then a late 2nd-3rd rounder uncapped.

If Floyd does stay, and our team avoids big injuries, our offense will be lethal...and dare I say it...our defense may be just as good or better?

The Panthers have very clearly indicated that if Luck comes out they are picking him. It was in our local paper today.

Michael has to come back (I pray).

There are just so many good WRs in this draft.

If he stays and continues to develop he can be the top WR next year.

floyd3@krudy9 damn u gone forever:( goodluck

i think that sounds like he's being left behind. he's staying. wishful thinking? probably, but i really think that it would benefit floyd to stay here. it made sense for rudy to leave.. all those injuries and being the undisputed top TE in the draft, but with floyd MAYBE being a second rounder.. just not worth it.

PLEASE STAY MICHAEL. WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP THEN YOU MAY GO. (preferably to my brownies..)

Kelly has stated he is "recruiting" both Floyd and Rudy.

While we all know the conclusion of the talks with Kyle (if projected as a 1st rounder he HAD to go..could not risk another injury), he has plenty of ammo to throw at Floyd. Obviously we all should want what is best for him...having said that getting him back would be big time news. If it is true the NFL results had him as a borderline 2nd day guy in the 3rd/4th round after already being snubbed as a 2010 Biletnikoff award finalist that included:

Justin Blackmon OKST
Ryan Broyles OKLA
Randall Cobb UK
Jeff Fuller TA&M
AJ Green UGA
Alshon Jeffery SCAR
Julio Jones ALA
Aldrick Robinson SMU
Greg Salas HAW
Jordan White WMU

(compare the stats for White: 5 rec, 55 yards 0 TDs vs Floyd: 9 rec 197 yards 3 TDs during their meeting in South Bend this year)

he has plenty to prove to the doubters. If the nation does not recognize Michael Floyd as a top 10 WR in college football today and the NFL under values him, then he should come back with a huge chip on his shoulder leading ND into the BCS. At least ideally...

I like this standpoint to give Floyd inspiration for next season.

I really hope returns, though I think he will be a great NFL receiver, I think his 40 time is what is hurting him right now. That seems to be all the NFL looks at anymore.

I think that he knows he should come back and try to be healthy. Everyone saw what he can do in the bowl game. After watching that game last night i just don't think Daniels is ready to be the number one guy.

I don't think many receivers coming into college are ready to be the number one guy. I did see some things I liked from him though. Obviously all the skills are there he really needs to work on route running, but he hasn't played much receiver. I'm sure as soon as he gets in that will be the number one thing he will work on. He just doesn't have that skill set yet. Speed and size are definitely there though.

He has the height, but he needs the weight. He's 164, which is less than Roby Toma.
