lol.

I got reps for my replys.

How many do you have?

PMs if ya got beef here on out. Wins equates to recruiting. Period.

Congrats on your reps. Your the man. Im not going to p.m you because its not a matter of having a "beef." Just stop complaining about a thread topic over and over again. And if you think the sole reason the Combat jerseys were developed and revealed early is for "fans" then thats not very intelligent. I have numerous friends on campus that play for the University of Tennessee that are begging and pleading for a Nike contract so they can have black jerseys. It matters to these kids.

Thank-you.

I have two of the world's smallest violins. One's playing for me. The other, that's for you to decide homey. lol.

Go Adidas!

Go Irish!

Beat the 'Canes!

P.S. - Tennesse in Black is like Elton John in a short skirt. I'd never pay to see one of his concerts; I like his music, but he's still gay... And ultimately, Johnny Cash would tear him a new one. Now that's black. Ok wow. Tangent.

I am a UA fan..in fact just got back from a UA outlet in Wilsonville Oregon (near PDX)....and from what I am hearing UA has Nike "worried" this comes from some friends I have at the Nike Headquarters in Beaverton OR. TFWIW

You mean Woodburn, right? I've lived in Wilsonville for almost 10 years. It's not that big, and I've never seen a UA outlet here.

i don't believe that anyone who would choose a school over another based on the apparel provider is not someone who belongs at Notre Dame to begin with. When i played sports, all i wore was Nike and i do believe they make a better product but its not like Adidas is far behind.

Johnny... I like ya, and I've spoken to you in the past privately about playing ball at NMSU, but you are way off base here... I have been a fan of this site for the past 2 years, and just because I don't have a bunch of posts doesn't mean mine, or anyone else's opinion is weightless. You are entitled to think that it doesn't make a difference, and that the topic is senseless, but just as you are allowed to think that, others are allowed to disagree, and they shouldn't be called out because they don't have enough posts... I am glad you got reps.. You are a very good poster and deserve them, but in this particular case, you are wrong my friend...

Fwiw, athletes do care about gear... in some cases (lax gloves/helmets personally) we obsess over it. The whole team bitched and moaned about the Riddell helmets we had last year.... but I cannot think of a single guy who would choose a school based on their helmet or gear manufacturer.

Maybe if both schools were completely and utterly equal and one had "cooler" unis.... but that has to be a very rare instance. Just because someones eyes light up over shiny new gear doesn't mean they're going to base a life choice on it. Sweetness, can you ask your players where the Nike vs. Adidas factor ranks in importance on their decision? I'm sure it factors in, but I also think it comes in WAY below coaches, facilities, campus, comfort, weather, etc.

This. Even as a fan, i care that i cant buy any of those cool Nike sweaters or hats for ND but im not gonna root for Texas just cuz they have it. I don't believe ND recruits kids that are that superficial.

Agreed. Thats exactly what I said earlier. It's a very minor thing but it does come up. If it changes a kids 40 year plan than thats beyond immature and he/she may not belong at ND anyway.

Alright. My fault.

Elton John is still gay though. Just saying. BTW, post count was irrelevant. My root cause was one poster portraying many. I appologize for the smoke and mirrors.

My post count is not that impressive. Do me a favor and re-read and see if the context is revealed. Otherwise, one too many "2 Belows" added to the tangent.

Feel me? Forgive me my trepass noobs. I, too, am still quite a noob as post count is contradictory our goal at hand. But flamers and trolls frequently create new profiles to add senseless breadth. I thought this was a funny thread.

I soon realized how serious people felt brand affiliation truly was... And then I stood my ground.

I don't want to take up anymore of this thread with this, but Johnny, props to the response. Well done.

This is what I am trying to say. Sure there are some kids it really doesn't matter but for most i really does and if you can't see that you are either ignorant or you just don't want to believe it. If you go to any high school football game 70-80 percent of the kids are wearing Nike gear. Here are a few pictures of Kyle Prater in high school.

Notice how literally ever single piece of gear he is wearing Nike

Not sure what Elton John has to do with it or why you would ever pass up the chance to go see one his shows because he digs dudes but...

This has been interesting. Nike dominates because it spends more money on more teams than anyone else. For every kid who gets excited about Nike shoes, there are 5 that get excited for the Golden Helmet. It's an interesting thought but no, not having Nike as our sponsor probably doesn't hurt us.

The disagreeance in this entire thread is pretty much summed up by this video clip from Friday Night Lights....

If we lose a recruit because we don't wear the right shoes, what does that say about the kid? Maybe I'm just old! Go Bears!!!!!!

All I got to say is RUN DMC....My Adidas!

hahaha I used that as justification a couple posts ago. I got Run DMC and B.o.B. on my Pandora randomly. Two hip hop stars o different eras repping Adidas? Zero repping Nike? Game, set, match.

Seriously, if anyone picked a university to play football at for four years based on the type of jerseys The University of Notre Dame wears on Saturdays on national television on NBC, I might have to jump start somebody's crotch with my knee. I have nothing more to say; carry on.

i think it matters, but i dont think it matters enough for someone to choose a school over another just because of the uniforms.

I'll break one of my rules: I'll jump in with a comment before reading all current postings --- I'm at post #15 on page 1 of 4 pages.

This is bull****. Barring an overwhelming engineering (while licit) advantage of A over B over C, etc. There is little, if any, reason to base a decision to chose school A, B or C over any other (D, E or F) simply due to the "coolness" of uniforms.

Does Notre Dame need to stoop to uniforms that are "the bees' knees," or "phat" to attract outstanding student athletes? I sure as hell hope not.

Styles change (or not) over time. A Tux is still a Tux. Classic, in spite of the brief period where lapels were the width of a 747's wings and colors such as Georgia Peach and Eyes of Paul Newman Blue.

God help the school who's recruits are swayed by the status of the uniforms as rated by some cable fashion channel rather than by the quality of the education offered, its football program's history, and the strength, and probity of the institution.

Yes, I face and recognize "new realities" every day. It doesn't mean that I have to like them.

I would've been pissed if I went to a college where I had to wear a certain type of pads. But goalie pads are a different story than football shoes... and I still don't think I would change my school choice over the issue.

This is probably how it plays out. The look of the jerseys matter much more than the logo affixed to them. I'm sure some recruits take UM over ND because they like their helmets better and both offer similar education opportunities.

Anecdote: I knew a highly recruited bball player who told me he turned down X school (a top 5 bball program) because he didn't like the way their unis looked. He basically said school Y (not as good, but still solid bball program) was just as good in everything else and if he goes pro it's more about him than the school. Thus, he chose the school with unis he liked. Nike sponsored both schools.
