i would so love a Miami beatdown for Christmas. that would make for a special end to a truly difficult season and help solidify this class.

All I can think about here to keep my hopes up is cierre wood during his recruitment. I remember him in an interview talking about going on all 5 official visits. He said something like: You have to take advantage of all the free food, *** kissin', and trips. You cant get those free trips back. Cierre was solid all the way through but talked about taking advantage of free visits paid for by competing universities. I just hope that Stephon is doing something similar...we need him. he's a perfect fit in our defense.

Christian Westerman (Texas 5* OT) is also visiting Auburn this weekend. If they are recruiting Tuitt to play OT, maybe this will turn him off even more.

Side note: On Tuitt's fbook, and Auburn rep of some kind, wrote on Tuitt's wall and said," Hey Truitt, cant wait to see you down here with myself and the other coaches."
Funny that Tuitt is our "big fish" in our defensive class, and they care so much about him that they don't even know his name. I really hope this kid identifies the scumbags that make up the SEC and feels the love from ND enough to stick around.

I hope we keep this kid. I really do. But why do so many people want to start bashing him when at this point he is still a ND verbal. And if he were to decommit and chose another school, he has went about this better than most and better than our decommits to date.

If he choses another school we shouldn't be mad at Tuitt, we should be upset at Kelly and his staff.

I've yet to see anyone "bash" him. Much less many people.

I could go thru this thread and quote only the comments about getting paid alone and it would last a half page. Those comments are just as derogatory to the recruit by making an assumption he would step low enough to accept payment while playing college ball.

Come on man that is ridiculous. This is the nature of recruiting and he is still committed to ND last time I checked. That is bull if you get upset at Kelly and his staff for not being able to control the mind of a 17 year old kid from SEC country. Now unless Kelly and his staff just totally let him walk and don't recruit him as hard, or harder, than any of the other prospects, don't get upset at the guy that will turn ND around.

He won't turn ND around if he doesn't recruit. That's half the job as a college coach and if he sucks at it then eventually the on field product will suffer. Saying don't get mad at him because he can't get kids out of SEC country is little different than saying "don't get mad at him because he can't make the team play good defense".

Get real, recruiting is his job.

Get real and look at this class, one in which Tuitt is STILL a part of right now. It is a top 15 class. Did you really expect him to land a top 5 class is first year after the last three seasons we have had. I don't see how you can say he can't recruit. We are looking great for Ishaq and Carlisle. Those two will easily make this a top 10 class. That sure looks like he can recruit to me.

Recruiting is part of his job. Developing players & winning football games is a bigger part of his job.

To be honest, I don't know if weekly visits would have changed this kid's mind. He's not gone yet, so let's not have a meltdown.

Also, paying the recruits comments are a shot at the SEC, not Tuitt.

Stephon has been a very humble recruit thus far, and he appears to be a stand-up guy.

Who cares what their ranking is coming out of high school if Kelly and the rest of the staff get them playing at a championship-caliber level? Player development, scheming, and in-game adjustments are more important than recruiting. Like people before me have said, the goal is to win. Recruiting 4-5 star players makes it easier to reach this goal, but it isn't a requirement to winning.

TT: looks like you echoed my thoughts while I was typing

What did the scout article say? Is there any news here or is it just a chance to bash the SEC and for posters to quibble about the importance of star ratings again?

At the end of the day the kid is going to go where the kid wants to go. We'll except kids that flip to us and it's going to happen in reverse. Kelly can recruit as we've seen ND beat out other other programs for a verbal. Losing a verbal isn't usually tied to not being able to recruit, it's usually tied to there being doubt. Doubt about being far from home (Prestwood), in their personal abilities (Lynch), or doubt that the staff is going cater to their every need (Hayes). Or in the case of Burton he and his family are just liars. Things happen and this has been a season full of bad crap. Recruiting is his job and so is prepping a team for a bowl game. Let give it due process and stop letting your bitterness of the exchange rate flow into your posts.

At the end of the day the team is going to play the kind of defense it wants to. We'll play well some days, and then it's going to be bad some days. Kelly can coach defense as we've seen them shut down Army and Utah. Playing terrible defense isn't usually tied up in not being able to coach defense, it's usually tied to the injuries and chance. Injuries to key players (Williams), crazy plays (MSU) or recruits just underperforming (Steve Filer). Things can happen and it's been a season full of bad crap. Defense is his job and so is offense.

does that make any more sense than what you posted?

And what the hell does our exchange rate have to do with anything? The Canadian dollar is up 50% in the last four years against the US dollar. Sorry you can't buy things from Canada anymore, but Canadian shoppers are the only thing keeping Buffalo alive right now.

This is why I would get upset. Tuitt gave us his verbal in September. I don't know how many phone calls ND can make to verbals, but the good ones like Tuitt call as much as possible- see how he and is family are doing, comment about their friday night game, etc.

I just found this message on a Auburn messageboard:
"one of the other sites I frequent has a Notre Dame insider that said ND no longer considers Tuitt a commit. This is a complete 180 from just a few days from the same guy, who said he doubted if Tuitt would show up to Auburn this weekend. He said while he is not sure that means Tuitt to AU, it does mean Tuitt will not be playing ball at ND."
Here is the link if anyone wants to follow and get info on Tuitt's visit when it comes available:

I'm really interested to find out who that "insider" is. On another note, it is disgusting how they talk about how if they add Tuitt they are going to cut some kid named Sigler or something like that. And they make it sound like that's totally OK.
