The only function of the statistical compiler in splitting the graduation rates into "color" categories is apparently and primarily to find if there are data to suggest that some programs are treating the handling of these kids differently.
Theoretically, if the schools recruited them at all, they thought that they could graduate. The fact that a category of student is NOT graduating at the same rate as another category of student indicates that the school has not really cared about graduation as a priority. This not-caring has occurred either in the recruiting assessment itself, or in the academic treatment once on campus, or both. Any of those answers are damning.
Another statistic worth viewing, if it existed, would be the relative graduation rates from different socio-economic backgrounds. That would give a sounding board of fact which might remove us a bit from couching this in racial terms. Any way you look at it, many programs don't give a rat's ### about the athletes, and many don't care regardless of category.
