YouTube - Maty Mauk Highlights

He does not look like an elite prospect, to me. He looks like a three-star.

Positives:

- Accuracy
- Mobility

Negatives:

- Poor mechanics
- Wacky throwing motion
- Not a great amount of touch

I live down in Cincinnati and there was a special on last night about Mauk. I think some mechanical issues are there but those can easily be fixed. TerryTate, I was wrong but I still want Dorial Green Beckham. I doesn't matter what offense we run, he has to throw to somebody. Here are his junior stats:
13 games
372-568, 5670 yards, 69 TD, 14 INT; 164 rushes, 974 yards, 16 TD
yeah, that is not a typo.

Wow. Good Lord.

If Kelly can polish this kid's mechanics, he could be a weapon.

Is there ant doubt

Is there ant doubt

this kid will be Irish.
From an article by suntimes.com

‘‘It’s a guaranteed Heisman Trophy to whoever that guy is,’’ said former Cincinnati quarterback Ben Mauk, who thrived in his only season in Kelly’s offense in 2007 after transferring from Wake Forest. ‘‘Once he gets a guy in there he can trust — they’re on the same page and they go through those meetings where he knows he’s on the same page — then you’ll see a whole new dimension to the offense.’’

Do you think his brother might suggest Maty go to ND? He is a ND lock.

First time poster...Love the site, a dream come true.

In regards to Maty this kid plays in the most unreal system. Throws 95% of the time and the other 5% he is running. When his team scores, and they did that plenty they always go for two and followed up with an onside kick 70% of the time.

Tremendous athlete as well. Kid runs the 200 meters sub 23 and is a state placer in the long jump.

Definitely ties with coach Kelly in regards to his older brother and his dad attended the coaches clinic last spring.

However, I'm not 100% sold he will wear blue and gold. I see Maty as the type that wants to play right away and with Golston this year and you throw Hendrix into the mix with Rees having atleast two more years of eligibility when Mauk is a freshman. I just wouldn't put it past him to go where he could play right away. Possibly a team like Cincinnatti where his main target from this year just committed. Plus Cincy is less than 3 hours from home.

just my thoughts. Go Irish

Good post. I don't believe he's 100% going to be Irish either, but from what I've heard just little rumors that he's probably going to be. He isn't local to me but did play in the same region as many of the local high school teams and there was a few rumors that he was going to be Irish. People were asking if he was going to Ohio State and a couple of the guys who went to a game said they heard Notre Dame was talked about in the stands I guess. I don't know how much credit you can put into that but who knows.

I here you, but with that said he would have to be significantly better than three possibly four guys coming in as a freshman and if not may not see the field till his junior or senior year maybe. I just don't see him having that type of patience. Probably wrong, but we'll have to wait and see. I'm not sure if he will be one to end the process early or drag it out and wait for the perfect fit, which may be staring him right in the eye.

I have been saying this since day 1. He is in a system that will put up numbers. The competition he is playing against is horrible. I cannot explain how bad they are.

There's a lot of good football played in the conference he plays in. Not elite, but good old fashioned smashmouth.

Absolutely agree about the system, though. A lot of average QB's can be mistaken for good. I'm not calling Mauk average, but you are right. He has certainly benefitted from the system and more so the 7 on 7 circuit in the summer, which is more responsible for his offer list thus than his play on Friday Nights.

The good news is, even though I like Maty as a player, there seems to be a lot of interest in ND by 2012 QBs in what looks to be a very talented class for QBs.

Absolutely. With the sheer amount of talented quarterbacks, we should be able to build depth with a couple of good ones.

Thanks man, and those numbers are just absolutely insane.

I know the competition isn't the best, but those numbers are practically unheard of at any level.

Sign him up, seems like a BK qb.

He's no match for Everett.. although you cant go wrong with Gunner Kiel...

Kid's a player bottom line and someone will be lucky to have em. Thing people don't know is how involved he is in the play calling of the offense for his team. He doesn't get as much freedom as his older brother Ben did, but he is very in tune with the game in regards to Xs and Os, which can really help him out if he chooses ND with as much pressure as Coach Kelly puts on his QBs.

I love how people keep downplaying this kids competition...the only major change in his stats that i could see if he were playing at a big school would be a reduction in the rushing yards. this kid can sling it...but maybe i am a little biased because i coach in the same division in ohio. lol

No don't do that! It works in reverse with someone you don't want to do well -- you would be virtually assuring SC of a NC, I think. Wait a minute . . . Yeah. Don't do that!
