I won't believe it until there is an official statement. At this time last year, Stoops to ND was a done deal and we all know how that played out.

Also Bill Stewart retiring from WVU, possibly paving the way for RickyRetardo to head back?

Seems like Gruden rode the wave until it hit the beach.

I think Pitt would make a huge mistake if they let Weinstadt go. Guy is a good coach.

What about Gary Patterson to Miami? He is an U of M alum and we have all seen what he has done at TCU.

Gruden tweeted this:

I am committed to ESPN & Monday Night football!

I have no interest in the University of Miami vacancy. I have not spoken to anyone at Miami and if they do, they will know I have no interest.

All that I want to do is get better at my job working for ESPN & Monday Night Football. I am glad that they want me here.

Nice 'sources' footballscoop.com!

I am hearing Mark Richt name being tossed around here in Atlanta for the UM job, but he "says" he is not intrested. I think he would have a better chance in the ACC at Miami rather than SEC at Georgia.

No way. He just signed a huge deal last year to keep him from going somewhere else and I figure the total price tag would be too high for Miami to buy him out of that contract. Plus TCU is a school with more tradition than people realize and is currently a lock for a BCS game... why would he ever leave?

Neither one of thses coaches will go there. Mich is set up for the spread offense and neither of these guys run that system.

also reports that Houston Nutt is going to Colorado

I heard that a few weeks back from some of the guys that I work with that are Ole Miss fans. I posted it on some thread then. There is A LOT of talk in Oxford about him leaving, but nothing in print, just fans. Not sure if they are wishing that he would leave, or hoping that he stays. Those Ole Miss fans are the most fair weathered fans I have ever seen. WonderDuck would fit right in with them...HA HA HA!

Jon Gruden to Miami -- or not

Log-in to rate:Log-in to rate:Log-in to rate:If Jon Gruden has been let go by Miami, well, it's a damn shame.

The man had the job for two hours Sunday night. What the heck is going to happen to all his commits? The next coach is going to have a heck of a salvage job. Shabby way to treat a coach, Miami.

What? Wait, Gruden never was hired by Miami? You're kidding? I saw it on Twitter. I saw it from sources. I saw it in blogs. I saw in my e-mail. When a guy can't trust those outlets who can he trust?

For those of you sarcasm-impaired, calm down. We have entered a dark, confusing, dangerous age in journalism. Rumors are now stories. If we don't react to them, you do so at your own peril. Sources can send us scrambling like Top Gun fighter pilots. We have to. If we don't, we risk getting scooped. There's the same chance we also might end up chasing those wild geese.

some rumors do turn out to be true

Miami Herald had an article by BARRY JACKSON AND SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN...it was like a half hour old...it said the UM AD was meeting with Gruden tomorrow to work on a deal...then the article freakin vaporized, I went to page forward to read the rest..."article not found" error. I went back to the link that came up when I googled Gruden...hit it..."article not found"...went to the herald site and the article is nowhere to be found

Thats just bizzarre...

Remember when Les Miles was a sure thing to Michigan? Rumors can be true, rumors can be false, but there is almost always something to cause the rumor.

I would put it at 50/50 right now with Gruden. Hammering out details is not as easy as it seems... if it even gets to that point. I remember hearing from like a thousand unreliable low-ranking people in the athletic department last year that Stoops agreed in principle to come to ND but wanted $6 mil a year and the University balked at that number. Who knows if that's true or not, just like these rumors.

I'd question these rumors much more if they came from a BS sports website that has "sources", but this comes from Miami's Rivals page. Not saying they can't be wrong or that Gruden and the AD will talk but he won't take it, but chances are Miami's Rivals writers are a bit more reliable than others we have seen

i just think gruden is a big fish, and big fish dont go into smaller waters they go deep and stay deep. so why drop down to the college level? theres a ton of nfl teams that will be interviewing him after the season. if anything i believe miami is throwing his name around to keep current players and recruits from jumping ship. its damage control be name association. also haven't you seen tons of other schools in the past toss out big names as a diversion so they can interview who they really want with less media distractions? all too familiar story line..... haha if he does take the job id be surprised unless he loves the state of florida that much. but wait theres another nfl team in that state that will be looking for a coach (jac). theres another name too look out for mike leach could be the one that lands the job just hope people forgot about what happened last year....

Now he has ties to ND....didnt his dad coach at ND? Was he ever considered for the ND Job? I never got the story on that....i know Swarbrick said BK was the only one offered...however dont know if he was playing possom....

From what I recall his dad WAS an assistant coach at ND years ago and Gruden was an Usher at the games... If I'm correct, his name came up after Willingham and Weis departed but he never showed major interest.. My educated guess is that if "Da U" is offering $3.4 mill. ND was in the same ball park for salary. That said, I would see him staying in the NFL.. BUT, stranger things have happened...
