He's in prime position to be a 1st-team All-American at season's end. Being that he's at Notre Dame, go ahead and put him on the injury watch list...

I'm happy for him as he deserves it. I'm wondering if Manti's mission may come soon. Before committing to ND I talked to Manti's aunt about what kind of impact the mission would have during his college career and if she requires it for her sons at a certain age. They are also college football players. She said they can take it when it is right for them.

Reading that NBC article on DD about the lack of veteran starters on o-line and defensive front seven really got me thinking. I'm guessing it will be a couple years before Kelly can recruit the type of players that fit his program. Maybe it will be an option for Manti to do the mission after this season and come back in two years.

I was wondering the same thing the other day. It will be interesting to see what Manti decides to do. I understand the logic of him taking his mission next year..., I hope he doesn't but I can see where he might.

Manti still has some obvious holes in his game, he's got unlimited potential though. He won't win this year, but very well could in the future.

That is what I was thinking as well. I thought that I read where he made the statement that right now he was using his time at ND as a mission to the younger players. Showing them that he can have fun, be popular, all while living the right way and doing the right things. I know I read that. I will look for it and post it when I find it.

I hope he does take his mission after the season. This is a special kid and he is only going to get better and better and we will need him the next couple of years as we try to gel this defense together.

"That's the plan so far," Te'o told the Tribune recently. "The plan is I'll just play out (my career), just do football. But I don't know what'll happen."

From here For now, Te'o's mission is Irish football - Chicago Tribune

I realized he and his family stated this but he was also planning to take the mission after his freshman year. Faith can make you do the unexpected so anything is possible. I think much of that decision rests with Brian Te'o. Manti is a young kid just wanting to play football. I've heard and read about how his father reminds him that serving God comes first. When you look at where this program could be in two years, it may play out well for him to do the mission.
