Hey ph! How you been lately buddy! Been a couple days. Don't you agree that Ian (who can, anytime) blowing up the first (fullback) option is the key to the whole day. If he shuts it down and frees lightning and thunder, (Manti and Carlo) we may never get to see Rickey Dobbs drop back to pass, or do any of that other wonderful stuff. What do you think?
...good to be BT...good to be...hope all is well
if Ian can be productive, especially early...Dobbs is exposed having to make the read on option 2 and 3...so long as Dobbs is made to pay dearly for keeping it beyond option 1 (ie he's drilled into the deck ala manti's wmu hit), I like our chances to hold them to 10 or less...I guess if Ian can't consistently collapse/plug the middle, and take away the option 1 production, we'll get fewer clean shots to ring Dobbs' bell, and we'll give up yards on play action over the middle in addition to running yards.
conversely, if effective Ian also helps take away any short to intermediate pass game in the middle 1/3 of the field because the ILBs will not be pulled up so hard on play fakes.
If it all works out for us...I see their best shot as catching one of our safeties and going over the top, maybe some out routes (although our corners are tough), or rollout QB run/pass option plays or anything designed to get our OLBs defending in space.
I also think they know we are a different D . This is why we may see some early "trickeration"...I'm actually hoping to see it...regardless of the result, they'll be telling me they don't believe they can keep up...
As well even if Ian has a mediocre day...we will still win. They can't keep up on the points side of things, and I know this defense will not fold up in the 4th.
